is my 383 combo wrong
i bought a 83 .87 roller block comp cam muthr thumpr hydraulic roller 533 519 lift magnum lifters with link bars h beam rods forged crank balance 10.4 to 1 comp vic jr heads 208 intake rpm air gap intake roller rockers turbo 350 3000 stall {which is suspect} 9 inch rear with 411 engine ia a dog of the line. The cam was not degreed i thought timing tab was wrong but i pulled heads and verified true tdc.Ive been told that heads r to much for my cam so i was thinking of putting on my performer rpm heads 202 intake is this a good idea? Was also considering going back to 4 speed standard so i dont have to worry about torque convertor.Im also wondering if i had timing wrong i had 36 degrees totalwith msd disat also has 6 al msd box any ideas input greatly appreciated.Ps carb is 750 mighty demon that wasnt working well either was super rich thanks.

Re: is my 383 combo wrong
well first of all, the thumpr cams are not for high horsepower.. its all sound.. heads and shortblock look good.. i would open up the carb and make sure the jetting is factory spec.. jet specs should be in the neighborhood of: regular downleg style boosters should be 75 primaries / 83 secondaries jets and annular boosters should be 70/77. my 750 MD came with jets 15 sizes too large(85/93) and i have an annular carb.. that, my friend, was a dog off the line..
so check the carb first before anything else.. just my carb made my mid 11sec motor go 13.0's.. it was a nightmare.. but after some research and carb work, i'm in the 11's..
btw, as for a cam not being degree'd, it wont make an extreme difference.. might be a better idea to go with the rpm heads though.. vic jr. heads are made for bigger, more race oriented cams.. the rpm heads are for midrange street power from about 2500-6500.. the vic jr heads could be part of your torque loss.. but carb first.
