fried 2 ignition coils in 2 days
350 tbi and it fried 2 coils in two days. The second time when I was changine it I noticed the tach wire from the coil which is unhooked and was uncapped was about a 16th of an inch from the throttle body. Would the tach wire touching the engine cause a coil to short out? is it possible I just got a bad coil? The first coil actually melted its insides out a little the second smelled a little burnt. Popped the new one in and it started right up. Thanks for any help.

sounds like a short grounded short. your ignition control module should get tested too. its the Brains of the routes of ignition. hmm, im scared, the tach wire comes off the coil yes. and if theres a short just leave the tach wire off. id get in there with a voltage meter and start checking wires and such. maybe even check the resistance of the pickcoil after that melt down. theres warranty on the coils, so you get free coils to keep melting until you solve this hot babe

What brand of coils?
I had bad luck with MSD, they just fail it don’t work for me. I tried BWD, I think, and the coil has been perfect for the last 7-8 years.
