Is this alright.????

In my 1990 Camaro that i just converted to carb, upon starting the car the fuel pressure would drop and an air pocket would form in the fuel inlet on the carburetor obviously a sign of the fuel pump not running while the car was running. I purchased a brand new fuel pump and installed it and had the same problem so figured it must be a wiring problem i had power going back to the fuel pump and power at the relay so i ran a wire from a location on the fuse box that gets power only with the key in the on position to the fuel pump power wire. Now when i turn the key "on" the pump begins to run and she starts and runs like a top. I just would like to know if there is any problem with doing it this way.

Well one thing off the top of my head that i can see right away is there needs to be 12V there when its cranking too not just in the "on" position.

Re: Is this alright.????

Well pratically speaking it may start as theres gas in the bowl but theres not pressure. Where youll really have a problem is if it dosnt start right then as you crank it you bleed off the fuel and and the bowls wont be getting filled. This will be a problem especially like in the winter when its cold and it may take some cranking or situations like that. Its one of thoes things although it may work it may not all the time. Its really should have power when cranking and running and considering its just a matter of hooking it up to a different wire why not just do it?

Re: Is this alright.????

it does not need the pump running to start the engine if it is carbed. i have my pump run through a hobs switch which needs oil pressure to run the pump. she will start right up.
