dipstick trouble

We're installing the dipstick into our 1985 2.8L V6 camaro and the sheath for the dipstick is getting stuck about a half inch away from the fully inserted position, we tried tapping it with a hammer but we don't want to hit it to hard because we don't want to damage anything. Any tips or advice would be appreciated

Re: dipstick trouble

A little grease or a little sanding. You can also slide a washer down to the ridge and tap on the washer with a long screwdriver.
