My shop manual says it's a fuel pump switch...
..or to be more precise: a fuel pump oil pressure switch. It sits on the top rear center of the engine next to the distributor, and it is leaking oil at a significant rate so it needs to be replaced. But I can't seem to find a replacement part anywhere. Does anyone know where I could get one, or have a part number for it? The car is an 87 lg4.
Thanks

Not sure it helps you in Norway, but Autozone.com has it listed as a Duralast part number PS140, Napa shows several including Echlin ECH OP6640 and Mileage Plus Electrical MPE OP6640SB, Advance Auto shows AC Delco D1829, BWD brand S996Z
Hope that helps!

Close, but unfortunately, no cigar. I do however thank you very much for your effort with listing parts, but if you look closer at the picture there is an arrow pointing to the part on the right. The parts you list is the one on the left, which is the oil pressure gauge sender. The fuel pump oil pressure switch is smaller and has two prongs and as far as I know its function is to cut off power to the fuel pump if oil pressure drops below 5 psi or so.
But thanks anyways.

Use a brass fitting to cap it. Fuel pump bypass switches are problematic to begin with
Its purpose is to supply direct power to the fuel pump once the engine registers a minimum oil pressure (3psi usually) in an effort to bypass the fuel pump relay should it fail during a run. It was an attempt by GM at redundancy, but generally leads to more problems than solutions as relay failures are rare and youd likely want to know immediately that there was a failure, instead of the next time around, or in worst case take forever to start because the dead relay doesnt send anything, you must crank and crank until the oil pressure builds enough to trip the switch and engage the pump. Also, they are prone to stick and run for 3-10 minutes after shut down as the oil pressure slowly bleeds off
Delete it and zip tie the connector out of the way
