Chevy 350 Fast Burn
I'm looking into purchasing this crate engine from the gm dealer down the road. A Chevy 385 Fastburn, but having debates weather i should do this or is there another Chevy 350 I could purchase for cheaper?.. Its great because the crate comes with everything to swap right over and just go. Just want to get some others opinions.
I want to go 350, no 383 or anything else. Rather go carb, i'm coming from tbi, and rather not go tpi, less hassle, wires, and nonesense later. I'm find with having at minimum 300 to the wheel, I don't need 600 or anything crazy. Just want a fun cruiser to burn other people will here and there while still daily communiting with decent gas mileage.

Re: Chevy 350 Fast Burn
I recently bought a 385 fastburn. I think it is a great engine.I have a 750 holley on it now but it runs a little rich....but over all the engine makes great power! very easily too. With 3.73 gear and a built 700r4 i can burn tires without even trying. The 385 fastburn is in my opinion the best 350cid engine you can buy......Also if you want to get more hp with about 600 more dollars you can get like 425hp out of it no problem.

Re: Chevy 350 Fast Burn
ah good someone who's experienced it!
Is the 670cfm not enough that comes on it? How much of a difference was the 750 you put on it? What would be changed with the $600? I currently run 3.23 gears and was debating 3.73 but i don't know how much of a difference it would make..

Re: Chevy 350 Fast Burn
Well my 750 is pretty rich. So ide say a well tuned 670 will do u fine on your setup. The 600$ would need to be spent on the lt4 hot cam kit part # 12480002. thats just basically rockers/cam/springs.....That's what makes the big hp. Your 3.23 gears are fine. 3.73 gears eat up a lot of gas on highway. As an everyday driver i'de stay with the 3.23. My 3.73 are a little much in my opinion......if you were to change your gear at all ide go with a 3.42.....

Re: Chevy 350 Fast Burn
A holley 670 carb is well sized for the 385 fastburn if you ask me. The only reason to change carbs in my mind would be if you had a 5 speed and you might want to go to a double pumper. You wouldn't gain much (or any) power with the 750, and you would lose throttle response.
