305 4bbl HELP!!!!

I have a 1985 trans am 4bbl 305. ok guys me and my dad took the motor out about a month ago then changed seals, gaskets , and clutch. We ended up taking it to a shop so they could finish the timing and vacuum lines. well i got the car back 3 days ago and last night on my way home from work it started idiling around 3K-4K RPM. I looked this morning thinking my throttle was just stuck because it started "dieseling" when i turned it off. Now it idels lower but stalls as soon as i take my foot off the clutch when i put it in gear. So now i have no idea what the problom is and this is my Daily driver unfortunently. So any help would be great.

Re: 305 4bbl HELP!!!!

Verify all the moving parts on the carb are clean and not sticking, especially the fast idle cam. Verify all the vacuum lines are connected properly, if you're not sure there should be an emissions routing diagram on the underside of the hood. Make sure the choke is working properly and opening when it's warm. Set your idle speed to about 750 rpm when warm and in neutral, making sure the throttle is not on the fast idle cam. Hold a propane torch with the fuel turned on but no flame around vacuum lines, especially connections, and the base of the carburetor while listening for the rpms to increase, which will indicate a vacuum leak. Run some fuel system cleaner, such as Seafoam, through as carbon buildup in combustion chambers can contribute to dieseling.
