valvetrain question

can i reuse the lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms from my 1988 305 on a 1991 350?

Same heads? You always want to place the rocker arms and push rods in the same place because they will wear down a lot faster. I would never reuse old lifters unless they are rollers.

no, the 1991 350 is complete from plenum to oil pan. the lifters are hydraulic rollers. actually i don't have the lifters from the 305. i have to take the intake off this 1991 350 to check the conditions. the reason i ask this question is that my friend's father works at a place that makes rocker arms, and i have the old 305 heads with rocker arms and push rods. if the rocker arms are the same for both engines i was going to give him an arm off the 305 heads so i wouldn't have to loosen the valves on the 350 just in case they aren't the same or i just need to put the engine in asap (never adjusted valves before, a bit squeamish).

btw while i'm here talking about valvetrain, what is the OEM push rod length? i'm looking at comp cams' high energy push rod sets in my year one catalog and they give two sizes for OEM hydraulic roller cams: 7.195" and 7.2" lengths.

bump! just took the intake off my donor engine and it looks all black like over cooked bacon! looks like new valvetrain stuff is in order.
