Leaking Fluid Help!

So, my recently purchased 1987 Camaro Sport Coupe with 2.8 V6 has been leaking oil, and I'm told coolant (haven't noticed myself but my dad said he found some on the driveway). What I'm asking is if there are any "regular" things that go wrong on these engines to cause this?

The oil leak is dripping from the drain plug area however, due to how grimy the undercarriage of the car is, it's difficult to tell if it's coming from the drain plug, or higher up.

Re: Leaking Fluid Help!

Ontario? Nice! I'd like to take a cruise up there, but I don't have a passport or enhanced NY license yet

Anyway.. things that come to mind in general are and not in any particular order --
water pump, intake gasket failure, head gasket, radiator, radiator hoses, radiator over flow tank/can.

I'm not saying those are all prone to failure but they are common places that someone can find a coolant leak. Look for cracks in your rubber hoses, look for fluid around the radiator. Look for fluid and discoloration around your intake where it meets the heads and block as well as around the water pump. Look at where the bolts are for fluid coming up. Also, it can be overlooked but check the freeze plugs for fluid. Heads could be cracked as well.

If that doesn't do it for you, and you want to learn while doing the work your self--- considering going with a UV light and dye to detect the leaks. Here in the states, places like Pep Boys and Autozone as well as others carry such products to do the job.

Good luck with it, please let us know how it goes!

Wow:|
so I recently got my car up on a hoist to take a look and what I found is what I least expected..

The oil leak, which was coming from what looked like the drain plug, was actually coming from just above the drain plug. There is about a 1"x1" spot which you can literally push it and it feels like soft bread:P

I think I'll just pick up JB Weld, drain the oil, scrap/sand away the crap around the spot, apply JB Weld and leave it over night. An oil pan swap on this car looks to be a bit more than I have time for on my daily driver(N)

Oh and as for the coolant leak…*It looks to be coming from the timing cover. Once again, I don't have the time to fix it. I need this car to drive daily for now.
