Hi guys,

I've been chronicling my engine swap in the other section and now that I've got her running I'm finding trouble with the transmission.

I got the '87 700r4 off of craigslist for $75 so I wont be heartbroken if its bad. But before I spend money on rebuilding it I would like some opinions.

Basically, she holds great in first, but will not upshift to second. I've hit about 5000 RPM and have not gotten a shift. In my research as to the probable causes, I've discovered that redlining the engine in first and then letting off the accelerator can clear up stuck valves...but that sounds dangerous when I'm not sure of the problem.

I've set the TV cable three times and it seems piano wire tight at WOT. I removed the governor and it moves fine and doesn't appear to be sticking.
Everything in the pan looked about right when I put it on, but I know that can mean nothing.

Fluid is still settling after the first fill up, so I'm adding more as it drops. I checked and it's not leaking out anywhere, just filling up the TC and valves I guess. I don't think that would cause this issue. The fluid is not burning.

I'm guessing that the valve body is bad and will need work done to it. If I have to drop it...I'm wondering if I could use spare parts from my working 92 V6 700r4 as replacements. I know springs and weights might be different, but that shouldn't be to hard to fix.

So, I guess I need some opinions on a path to go down here.

Governor gear is likely toast. What did it look like once you had it out? Replacement is easy.

The governor looks just like the one out of my v6 700r4, but with bigger weights. It doesn't appear to be bad and moves easily. I even swapped the v6 one in for awhile and there was no change in behavior.
