Did i clog my cat?

Hi

I took the belt of my air pump 3 weeks ago because it was very noisy. My gas mileage did go up and the car ran great! When i started it today its Chugging. It doesnt feel like its on all 8 cyl The motor doesnt seem to skip when i rev it passed 3 grand but i hear the chug. I had someone give it gas while i put my hand near the exhaust and it seemed to flow ok

I tried a laser thermoter on the exhaust manifold and the reading where all over the place?

How would i know if i clogged the cat? Bad gas? clogged injector?

Thanks Tommy

Re: Did i clog my cat?

When my CATs died it would only run 20 MPH at max including WOT. If it hit them I would hear particles shifting around and it would run better for a few miles then go back to poor response again. So smack the converters lightly with a hammer and that should tell you. I did put a can of the NOS Brand fuel addictive in it and it would run 50 MPH or so then at WOT. I assume that was from making the CATs that much hotter in temperature.

A fuel injector is a little harder to find. If you use a long screwdriver and put it on top of each fuel injector you can normally hear them click at idle if you put your ear on the end of the screwdriver... obviously make sure you don't get in the way of the belts because they will grab onto any clothing, fingers, etc.

Re: Did i clog my cat?

Might be. You could always try using a portion of Heet (water removal) in it. My bet is on CATs or Fuel Injectors though.
