Anyone used their Camaro to tow anything?
Hey guys I wanted to know if anyone else has used their car to tow, or if they're considering it. Due to money reasons and others, I'm going to have to build myself a small folding trailer for hunting jobs while I'm waiting to go to school. I know the towing limit for the camaro is 2k lbs, but has anyone actually done that??? I wanted to know how the car felt, how it reacted, and if there were any suggestions from those who've actually used the car to tow anything. The limit for the camaro might be 2,000 lbs but I'm not interested in maxing it out, I'm going to be trying to keep the trailer weight as low as possible, and also as short as possible since I at least want to use the stock center rear view mirror. I know the trailer will be too wide to use the side mirrors regardless so I'm going to try to make this trailer as foldable as possible so that I can use the center mirror.

Well, I see people towing crap with Prius' and Toyota Camry's. So I'm pretty sure your Maro will do just fine, with its 350 and RWD. Just be light on the throttle with the T5.

The only things that stand out is the weak uni-body compared to modern ones and the brakes.

I towed a single axle uhaul trailer 1700 miles on a fresh transmission/auto, no real problems but the car wasn't happy. Would not do it too many times.

VERY common for the autocross guys to be pulling a small trailer for 4 tires, a tool box & misc. small stuff on it.

Re: Anyone used their Camaro to tow anything?
I really appreciate the comments guys. I just got home from stopping at a couple dealerships and looking at trading the camaro in for a truck. I love my camaro but I need something A LOT more reliable for transportation for work. The short story is that I am just finishing up a bankruptcy and I'm about to leave the Army for the second time. I need a vehicle much more reliable for transportation since I'll be driving to any of the coasts most likely to find contract jobs and then going to a new location when the contract ends.
With that being said, I NEED something that can tow a camper reliably, hence why I was looking at trading up to a truck. This car is far from going to play in the autocross arena unfortunately, mainly because of the worn out transmission(which is whining) and engine(smokes pretty good). Like one person said it is a 350 and RWD so that would help me out pretty good, and I could probably tow a trailer heavier than 2,000 lbs since I would be putting trailer brakes on the axles to assist the camaro in stopping. BUT, overall, I think it'll be best for me to just say goodbye to this camaro and get a nearly new truck. I'll win in more ways than one if I go that route, 1) it'll help rebuild my credit after the bankruptcy, 2) I'll have a nearly new vehicle that is very reliable for work and most importantly....3) I'll be able to tow a larger camper(or in my case BUILD a much larger camper). Since I'll have to live out of the camper for a few months at a time while working between school semesters, larger will mean much more comfortable and me being happier while I'm away. Once I have my credit rebuilt I'll consider buying a camaro, and maybe by then I'll look at the newer 5th gen lol. With all the work this camaro needs it just isn't worth it anymore for me, I just don't have the time or the money to keep working on it with me transitioning out of the Army soon.

The 3rd gen is probably the ultimate American sport coupe. Would you tow with a Porsche? Lol
