Should I just replace the wiper motor?

After looking through the threads about wiper problems, I notice that a lot of people have these problems but there are not a lot of answers out there. Is that because it usually just requires replacing the motor? My wipers won't work on normal speed or intermittent speed (or if they do work, it takes like 5 mins for them to start). The high speed is the only one that works without a problem. I initially tried replacing the wiper motor cover but go NO CHANGE from that. I then tried replacing the switch and got NO CHANGE. I am not great with electronic diagnostics hence my shotgun approach to the problem. I had to pay big bucks at the dealer for the wiper motor cover years ago but my Dad had an extra switch that was new so I figured that was worth a try.

I want to finally resolve this issue as it has been present on my Iroc for OVER TEN YEARS! [It is mostly garaged anyway]. I guess my question is this: Should I just buy a used wiper motor and swap it out to see if that works or is that just going to be another waste of time and money????

Re: Should I just replace the wiper motor?

I thought this was going to be that question "why does my wiper do that extra wipe after I shut it off" to which commonly gets the bogus answer "there is a glitch in the IC circuit"

Manual says if wipers cycle in and out of park in HI and do not operate LO, MIST or PULSE check the yellow wire fo an open. That wire should be found on the module.
Do that and get back. I have a long list of checks that require jumper wires, a ground and 12 volts that you will need to connect to the pins on the motor and module.

BTW,
That extra wipe after you turn the wipers off is NOT a glitch. The wipers need to stop in a certain spot to park. If they miss that spot they will need to cycle once more before parking. Wind, vibrations, speed of the wipers... can cause it to miss that sweet spot it needs to be in to park.
Damn, and I told the world when I should have gotten that myth busters to do a show about it!

Thanks for the info but I am still not clear on what to check here. When you say "module", what part are you referring to? The cover? I should be looking for a damaged yellow wire somewhere between the motor and the switch?

I am refering to the module. A cover is just a sheet you put over your car. Something you put on your dash to protect it and that is all it does is cover it.

Re: Should I just replace the wiper motor?

As far as I know, there are three major parts in question here: Wiper Motor, Wiper Motor Circuit Board COVER (which attaches to the wiper motor), and the wiper switch. You are using the term 'module' to refer to what???

Re: Should I just replace the wiper motor?

Well if you use the process of elimination,
The motor could not be the module, its a motor.
The switch is a switch.
So that leaves the "wiper motor circuit board COVER. Maybe its possible that its really called the module, or at times, pulse module.
