HELP WITH IDLE

I know this is yet another idle question but I need some help with mine.
It idles at about 1000 rpm i think thats a little low, but if i tap the gas to rev it up it revs up and then stays at 1500 rpm for a few seconds until going back to normal.

Why does it do this and How can i adjust my idle?>

Re: HELP WITH IDLE

The idle speed is programmed into the ECM which controls it with the IAC (idle air control valve). It sounds like normal operation except your tach is reading high. Normal idle speed should be between 850-900 rpm. Ignore the tach in the dash which is very inaccurate at low RPM and put a handheld tach on it to check the idle speed.

Re: HELP WITH IDLE

Thanks man. Why u think that when I tap the gas to rev it up It sticks at 1500 then goes back to normal?
Also, my friend said to replace the cluster to fix the fuel gauge and temp needless and readings. He says that its broke so that's why it always says full tank .. what u think?

Re: HELP WITH IDLE

Can someone please tell me why my car idles at 1500 on start up and if I rev it up it goes up then back to 1500 for about 10 secs and back to normal? The check egine light comes on sometimes and then goes off. ?? Car runs fine other than that
And would changing my cluster with a new one fix the gas gauge? (shows full even if empty)
