Fuel Pressure Question
Hello,
I have been having issues starting my 85 camaro z28 w/ TPI. I have yet to have it not start just sometimes it seems like it takes a while for it to start 5 to 10 seconds of holding the key forward. I pulled out my gauges and hooked it up the port to check my fuel pressure, when i flip the ignition to the on position without starting it shoots up to 35 then slowly drops to about 6. When i start the car it jumps to 35 and stays steady at 35.
I though when the car was in the on position the fuel pressure should stay at its running pressure, and is 35 low fuel pressure? Thanks.

Re: Fuel Pressure Question
I think 35 is kinda low for a TPI car, but I'm no TPI expert - replace the fuel filter and see if that helps - if it's been over 1 year, you need a new one anyway.
When you turn the key, the pump primes for 2 seconds, but doesn't stay running until after the car is started, so you get a spike, then it'll go down, then go back up and stay after car is running - that is normal.

Re: Fuel Pressure Question
thanks ill give that a try in the next day or two. The in line filter is located on the underside of the car close to the drivers door correct?

Re: Fuel Pressure Question
Yes the filter is along the drivers side door. Also, the fuel pressure for the TPI should be around 45 psi.
Hope that helps

Re: Fuel Pressure Question
I may be wrong, but I believe that 35 pounds was normal for 1985,86 TPI engines. GM raised that to 45 pounds in 1988. Again, I may be off on the years. Anyway, I found that they run much better at 45 pounds, and all it takes is an adjustable fuel regulator. Good luck!
