Valve cover
Ok I no this should be a simple procedure but I've had a really hard time trying to remove my valve cover. My car is a 92 TBI 5.0 and I cant get the passenger side valve cover off. I 've removed everything it says to in the chilton manual plus more and I cant get the back side to lift off. It seems like either the transmission dipstick tube is getting in the way or a bracket holding a wiring harness may be stopping it. The bracket has a bolt that goes into the intake manifold, my question is if I remove the bolt for the bracket will it ruin the manifold gasket and have to replace it? Or is there supposed to be a way to move the dipstick tube?

Re: Valve cover
It shouldn't harm the gasket, but I don't think you should have to remove it to get the valve cover off. Have you tried coaxing it with a small dead blow hammer? Sometimes the heat and age of these things causes for a tight seal. You might also try a small pry bar under the lip of the cover.

Re: Valve cover
I've got it to actually lift off the head, and I can just about pull it off. I actually got the front of it high enough to see the rocker arms, but the back I can only get up about an inch before it catches that bracket.

Re: Valve cover
Have you tried pushing it forward after pulling it up?I remember having to do some kinda of tilting with mine to get it to clear the alternator or something.

Yes I've tried pulling and tugging every direction possible. I, going to go ahead and try moving that brace hopefully that will be enough to get it out.
