89 Camaro running horrible...help please
Hi all. New to the forum. I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix my friends car.
Here is what I've got. 1989 Camaro RS. Had a replacement 305 crate motor put in about a year ago. The motor was purchased by my friend at Advance auto, and he paid some fly by nights to drop it in. They got it good enough to run and drive down the road, although not running right, and usually had the check engine light on.
Car breaks down on the side of the road last week and I get it over here. I replaced the coil, and ignition control module, and got her running again. Not running right, but like she was before. I notice the vac lines to the egr and map sensor are disconnected and plugged from the throttle body. I reconnected the lines, and now it's really running like crap. Won't even barely idle.
I pulled the codes and got 12 first ( I know that's good), then got 23, 32, 33, and 44. Here is what I have replaced so far.....
fuel filter
plug wires
pcv valve
dist cap
rotor
oxygen sensor
map sensor
inlet air temp sensor
ignition control module
distributor pickup
coil
Nothing has changed in the way it runs. No codes anymore, and no check engine light. I have to feather the gas to keep her running. Sounds like it's on 4 cylinders, and burning gas like there's a dime size hole in the tank. Timing is good. No evident vacuum leaks. Egr valve seems to be working ok as I can feel the diaphram move when feeling the underside of it. What baffles me is when I pull the vac line from the map sensor, it runs ok again.
Any help would be much appreciated......
Dave
