91 camaro rs 305 TBI

replaced my distributor including cap, and ICM.
new injectors
no security light

I can get the car started for a few seconds then it will die. I can play with the throttle and get it to run a little longer but will ultimately die. I can hear a loud sucking noise coming from the TB but nothing. Checked fuel pressure and was around 12psi.

i have no idea what to do now. I'm almost tempted to rip out the TBI and just go with a carb setup. I prefer to keep the TBI though.

 

Was it at 12psi while trying to keep it running or while sitting there?
Also could maybe be a clogged fuel filter or plugged cat converter?

yes, it maintained around 10-13psi while trying to start.



No the car did not run before the new parts. I bought the car at an auction and have been trying to figure it out.

 

When you replaced the distributor did you mark the previous spot or did you find TDC?

 

top dead center... she will run on starting fluid but just will not idle... it also sounds like the TBi is trying to pull in a lot of air because I can hear it whistling when she's on.

 

Runs if you supply fuel. Ignition system, compression, and exhaust seem to be adequate, then.


If the TBI is making a giant sucking sound, I'd be looking at the commanded IAC position--as well as for any loose or missing vacuum hoses, and a toasted base gasket.

I had a TBI that I bought from a Treasure Yard. Put it on my vehicle, and it idled terribly. One injector wouldn't fire, so four cylinders got no fuel. I swapped the wire harness, no change--same injector didn't fire.

I'm trying to figure out which way is up, and suddenly that injector begins to spray. Thing was just sticky from being un-used for so long. Maybe your new injectors are sticky???

 

Hi, I know this is an old thread, but did you cure the issue in the end? My 305 TBI is giving an exact copy of your problem but can't find a solution.Thanks.
