Re: Accidentally put Kerosene in the gas tank..
so what did the kerosene do to the engine?
if i was a betting man, i'd guess that it washed down the cylinders, which removed the oil, which caused the rungs to wear down, which led to the crankcase pressurization... am i off base here?
if i'm right, then i would have tried to seat the rings like you'd do with a new motor as soon as i got it running good again... put it in L1, then get quickly going something like 20mph and let off the gas and let it coast down in gear until the car almost stops... the idea would be to create a vacuum in the combustion chamber that would suck the rings out tight against the bores to reseat them... do this 5 or 6 times and either the rings would be seated again or you'd know that it's time to tear it apart and fix it...

Re: Accidentally put Kerosene in the gas tank..
I don't know why your car stopped running good after you kerosene in it, but it had to be a coincidence that it ran like crap after you put kerosene in it; i put kerosene in my 1994 s10 pickup truck all the time, and in my riding mower, there was only one time when kerosene gave me a problem, and it was when I used a couple of ounces of kerosene only in my mower without gas, it started up and ran just fine after was warm, but when I try to turn the blades on, instead of the blaze turning on it started making a clanking noise in the motor, so I drained the tank back into the gas jug, and then I make sure that most of it was gasoline when I put it back in the gas tank, and it started up and ran just fine with the blades on and off, basically, kerosene is not bad for your engine, just don't put much in there, oh and also when I try to turn it off, it kept trying to run by itself, I'm guessing it's because it was still exploding in the extremely hot combustion chamber. some of the gas additive products on the store shelves are made of 100-percent kerosene or other mixtures with kerosene, some with different types of alcohol and even acetone and Coleman fuel, which used to be known as white gas in Vietnam, hope this helps.

No what you guys dont get is it was like 5-8 gallons of kerosene and i drove it for 2 weeks like that without doing anything. I had MASSIVE blow-by in the top end and it fried my rings and warped my cylinders because they were aluminum. I dont remember all the guy said but i dropped it off at a machine shop and he said it was one of the worst damaged motors he'd seen. He said minimum 1200 dollars before labor

Man.50 some replies and 5700 views.I would have thought by now you would have figured out how to run a Firebird on Kerosene and patented it.
Rebuild what??. Do think it's time to move off that rock and leave the skeletons behind you.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but something folks missed was said in post #29. He mentioned he had a push-in breather on the driver's side and the PCV on the passenger side VC. I think that is wrong, the breather or fresh-air tube from the throttle body (on my 89 TPI) goes into the passenger side VC and the PCV in on the driver's side VC connected to the vac port on the manifold. If he had too much crankcase pressure, I bet this was part of the problem.
This won't explain the damage the mechanic saw, but might have helped with the smoke and "back pressure".

Hey OP! If you want to rid yourself of the car, I'd be willing to trade you a nice cargo van for it, but you MUST include the fuzzy dice or the deal's off!
Seriously, what's your price?

Well i just graduated so im gonna buy a cheap 350 and put in my Lt4 cam i got and go from there. I sold the Marquis off and got a 99 Grand cherokee for 1900 bucks. When it came down to, I couldnt trade this car. Ive been through so much with it and i have SOOO much time and money into it. The only way id be willing to give it up is if someone offered me a trade for a 67 Impala SS <3

Re: Accidentally put Kerosene in the gas tank..
1967 was the year that the design changed a bit. It was the only year with those particular tail lights and with the rear seats with the center emblem. I didnt ever think about an impala until a few years ago when i began watching Supernatural. Since season one ive been totally addicted and im absolutely in love with the 67 impala they drive. I watch reruns daily and i even began to dress like them. Its just a bad@ss car. I love it. If it came down to i dont think i could sell it but it depends. Heres the supernatural one
