I just can't catch a break with this car....

I have been working on the brakes on my 83 z28 for months now and I think I solved that problem but I can't tell because now the damn thing won't start. Had the day off today and $75 in advanced Auto gift cards to burn so I decided to finish of some ignition stuff I have been wanting to do. I bought a new MSD street fire distributor and new plugs and wires to go along. I marked all points on old distributor and marked wires before taking old one out. I got new one in and it seated almost perfectly were the old rotor point was and then I got all wires and plugs put on, all wires hooked in, went to start and nothing. Now when I say nothing I mean I get power as my gauges and everything work but when I turn the key I get absolutely nothing no clicking or anything just silence. I though maybe my battery was drained so I charged it up fully threw it back in and same result. Any Ideas what could have went wrong I mean if the distributor was in wrong I would at least still get it to turn wouldn't I. I guess this weekend I will actually find TDC again and line it up to see if it changes any but I just dont understand why I get dead silence fuse maybe?....

i am by no means any expert but when i bought my car the starter was bad and i heard they go bad because the exhaust runs right next to it so i wrapped mine in a heat shield and so far so good.

Re: I just can't catch a break with this car....

So some more trouble shooting led me to a weird find. While doing brake work I also put in a new booster. When I went back outside I realized that my brake lights are staying on. So could this switch at the brake pedal just be my problem I mean would it cause the car not to start at all....

It will sure drain your battery quickly! Also, you should double check and clean all the connections from the battery terminals to the starter and to the ground and alternator.

check to make sure your getting power to the starter and that you have a good ground. get an ohm meter it will help. also make sure you didnt pinch any wires elsewhere for your ignition switch or anything like that
