i need some help here please car was hard starting when cold and I flooded it got it running and. a day later it started missing but still running well I went to store shut it off came back out and it started but popped out exhaust went a mile and it started popping again then died started up again revved it up and was fine for a mile and died and wouldn't start changed plugs wires cap and rotor on side of road still wouldn't start towed home checked for spark no spark at wires checked coil had spark so replaced icm now I have spark but still won't start fires every 10-15 revolutions then just spins pulled plugs again some were wetter than others but getting fuel pressure gauge reads 41 got spark got fuel wtf is wrong here please help and thanx

If the plugs are wet then they are not firing

Right some worse than others but checked end of every wire with a plus and there's spark there and no codes come up and I lined up tdc to make sure the chain didn't jump r u thinking there's not enough spark to fire?

ok you fixed the original problem with the no spark. but you replaced the plugs before that was fixed which fuel fouled the brand new plugs. so replace them again. or clean them off and dry them. it should fire right up

Tried tht let the cylinders dry out over night also. Is it possible to not have enough spark to fire in my experience the coil is either good or bad not weak or pickup coil for tht matter

does it have a strong blue colored spark, or a weak yellowish spark? and did you use correct AC delco plugs for it gapped to specs?

Autolite #24 plugs gapped correctly and it goes back and forth blue then yellow a few and then blue again thanx

My son has same car but it's 92. Started missing and hard to start.

1. Clean scale deposits in cap and install new plugs. No help but suspect wires because plugs foul again. did not change wires yet.

2. Swap in a spare dist but it had bad ICM so plugs get fouled some more.

3. Change wires & ICM but no start. maybe plugs were still fouled?

4. Get new dist but didn't clock it right so plugs get fouled some more.

5. Get dist in correctly and check TDC and car starts but misses badly.

6. Change plugs, cap & rotor and starts fast and runs normal.

This was 2 years ago and just this week car would not start in a downtown parking garage. Starts next day and drives home 5 miles but stalls in driveway and will not re-start. My son said there was no scale build up in the cap. Is it possible that air inside the cap gets "ionized" and causes crossfire? Maybe drill vent hole in cap?

Yep sounds very similar maybe ill try distributor but can't see tht being it if I got spark no clue?

So I pull 3 plugs are they all all fluffy black soot. clean and re-install. Look inside cap and see my son was mistaken... scrape white and brown scale off inside of cap. look at air filter and its rusty and dirty. Remove filter. Car starts and runs normal so far.

My theory is HEI is just to powerful and causes the scale-crossfires which is made worse by dirty filter & sooty plugs. I think that is why everything has coil packs now a days.

Last thing I did was spray the inside and top of the dist cap with WD-40 and no problems for last 5 days! Badd1 have you found your problem?

Thanx and ya put a new distributor in it started but have a nasty miss at idle but it starts and runs now can't believe it was tht really had spark just not enough evidently but Thanx again

having same prob. 3.1 v6. car died like i shut off key. got towed home. changed icm. cap button. wires. pickup coil and coil. still wont start. have spark from coil but not from distributor

Timing is very touchy on these I have found out try distrrib put a new chain in mine been running fine but the timing had to b dead on for it to start

even if it was out of time still would have some kind of spark from distributor.. rotor button goes around when i crank it so i know the chain aint broke.
