High idle

A beginner in most of this. I just put new plugs, wires, and distributer cap on this morning. Once I was done I fired it up. Since I got it, it always had a really slow turnover. Still had a slow turnover but when it fired it was idling at around 2300 rpm, it did go down a bit to 2000 but wtf! What did I do wrong?

Re: High idle

You posted in the wrong section, Sounds like a vacuum leak. The slow cranking could be to far advanced timing, weak battery or starter or cable corrosion or connection.

Its the right section.

On TP's advice though, that'd the best place to start. Follow all vacuum lines and look for cracks and/or breaks in the lines. Check timing with a timing light, make sure to mark the dampener. Check the grounds on the battery and starter. Most importantly, make sure you have the correct battery for your application. A quality battery like a Optima Red Top is a great upgrade.
