Lost power steering after engine swap.

It was fine before. I carefully placed the pump out of the way. Dropped new engine in, hooked everything back up, put in a UMI Kmember and a-arms. And now no power steering. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe bad luck and the pump just went?

Re: Lost power steering after engine swap.

Crazy possibility , I know , , But , Could the belt routing be wrong and the pump not turning in the proper direction ?

I only ask because that's about the only thing that pops to mind with your description of the steering assist's failure to operate properly with the newly installed engine ...

Re: Lost power steering after engine swap.

The pump is turning clockwise. I'm sure the belt routing is correct. Ugh, this is driving me crazy.

Update:

When the car is running, there is no movement at all in the PS pump. The fluid doesn't move, and it didn't lower when the car started. I removed the belt and I can spin the pulley freely. There's no resistance what so ever. Guess my pump took a dump?

Updates #2: My friend said "see if your pulley wobbles". I gave the pulley a VERY slight yank and the shaft came right out of the pump. Ok, new pump it is...

Those "coincidentally when I did this, I lost that" kind of things will drive you crazy.

Re: Lost power steering after engine swap.

This is exactly what happened when I did my swap. Rebuilt pump fixed me right up.

All I want to do is drive this thing. And it's fighting me every single step of the way. Oh well, I won't give up.
