to tune...or wait to tune

I have a 355 lt1 with cc503 in my camaro. My wiring harness is working well enough but I can't seem to get a UART signal. So no checking for codes, So I'm trying to test everything manually. My computer is still factory with VATS and all. I'm wondering if there is another reason I have such bad fuel consumption. She's running again but now I'm blowing smoke under acceleration. Not white, not blue, not really black....looks brown from my rear view. I know I should get it tuned but I'm gonna switch to the LS ignition with income taxes so I don't want to waste the money. Within the past 6 months I've replaced: fuel pump with walbro 255. Injectors with a used set from a 98 mark Vlll, adjustable fpr running a steady 43lbs. New TPS& O² sensor. And IAC. And I have checked for vac leaks with starter fluid but it seems to be OK.
I also have a weird shutter at idle that doesn't seem to affect the rpms...I may be getting a good job that's 30 mins away. I put 4.3 gallons in before I left and ran out of gas at home.....I'd hate to be forced to sell my mistress to move forward in my career....any help is greatly appreciated. I've built my whole car from threads off this site so thank you everyone. But I haven't come across anything from running engines with a stock tune with a cam a d bigger cubes...if someone can point me to a thread I'll take this down asap

Re: to tune...or wait to tune

lol. ok no code reader.

There's way better tuners on here than me, but the first step in this is to find out where you are before you take a step to get where you want to go. So why not post in the DIY PROM section as to how to get the computer talking, and also let them know you are dealing with an LT1 conversion. Those heads over there have probably dealt with this problem a hundred times at least. Good luck!
