getting settled with 305 to 350 swap need help with these last few issues
Car is an 86 lg4 305 with computer controlled quadrajet/distributor.
Finished swapping a 350 in and trying to nail down these last few issues...
carb/dizzy and engine have <50 miles on them. I kept all emissions/computer controlled sensors, etc hooked up and working just like stock. also new 02, new cat converter, and using new 350 knock sensor.
Problems:
code 45 rich exhaust
choke light on (alternator or no power to choke wire?)
temp creeps up past 220 idling (timing; air in coolant?)
little dieseling when shutting off (timing; need to turn down my 1500 rpm idle in park?)
Working on the code 45 first... I have not set exact timing or tweeked carb adjustments yet. I assume that should be the first move in fixing that...
Previously I had trouble with my ignition coil failing and flooded the engine testing for spark. (oil smelled like gas so I changed it out) I guess fuel got sent through the exhaust too and the 02 is picking that up thinking it's still running rich? Was thinking if I get the timing and carb adjustments right I could just run it till it clears out the exhaust.
My emissions sticker calls for 0 degree timing. I was gonna start there even though I have a 350 in now and move up until it pings. Is that the best way to time it?
Would like some input from you guys on how I'm going about this. Just want to double check with everybody to see if I'm moving on the right track here. Thanks.
