CCA-12-600-4

Installing this comp cam in my 92 z28 5.7... Will this cam require immediate tuning or can we get the car running & tune later? This is pretty much a stock s/u...

Dont replace the factory roller for a flat tappet. You want a thumper cam get the 08-600-8. But yes it will need a tune immediately either way

The problem you will run into is, downgrading from a desirable roller cam setup to an obsolete risky (in this day and time) flat-tappet cam will require a different timing set, different lifters, and different push rods; and will downgrade your engine as mentioned above.

Just putting one of those cams in a TPI motor is a big enough mistake to begin with. Don't compound it by downgrading even further.

Yes it will ABSOLUTELY need a tune. Most likely it will be essentially impossible to get it to idle and it will have other driveability issues as well. Even with a tune, it will probably make less power, go slower, and use FAR more gas, than your stock cam.

To play off of what Sofa said, the TPI and that cam are a large mismatch. I ran a 355 with the LT4 Hotcam and a stock TPI setup that was ported and Siamesed for a short while when I was working on a single plane intake. It was a strange feeling when you would accelerate hard, as if the engine was running extremely lean only it wasn't. Even if you had a FIRST TPI setup a 227/240 cam might be a bit much.

Thanks for all the input, what's strange is I called the summit tech line & that was there recommend cam....
