original air cleaner IAT sensor

when i got my Trans Am there was an aftermarket air cleaner installed. i was able to get the original air cleaner from the PO along with a bunch of other parts (none of the emissions stuff though) i wanna put the original back on but i see the vacuum line that goes to the IAT mounted inside the air cleaner. the sensor has 2 ports, i know one line goes to the flapper on the cleaner but where does the other one go? the car has had the emissions taken off so no smog pump, EFE, ect. will that have any affect on what im trying to do here? shes 5.0 carb

The other line is the vacuum source. It should be at a manifold vacuum (not timed vacuum) port on the carb or intake.

If the VECI label is missing you can refer to the database of labels. This one might be appropriate for an '86 E4ME:

Re: original air cleaner IAT sensor

could i plug it in on this tee fitting on the front of the carb where the choke pull off is also connected?

thats what it looks like on the diagram, but when i plug it in there my idle goes from 600 to 400

Re: original air cleaner IAT sensor

If that vacuum line is currently not capped off, the idle would certainly drop once something is connected there.

Your other problem might be excessive cat hair in the throttle plate area.

When I got the car the PO replaced the carb with the stock replacement made by National Carburetor, the one shown in the pic was the old one which he gave me. I just used it as a reference because the vehicle is not at my house at the moment.

When he replaced the carb he put an aftermarket air cleaner on and left 2 vacuum ports open one was that tee fitting. I was able to acquire the original air cleaner also, and when I installed it I hooked the vacuum line from the air charge temp sensor to that tee. That's when my idle dropped to 400
I turned the idle screw up a little since the vacuum leak has been fixed (the open tee) and now my car is idling at about 700 rpm in park

Thought maybe PO turned down idle so he could use his aftermarket air cleaner. Don't know why he just didn't cap it off

That's how the car is currently sitting though. did I do something wrong?
