Dipstick

'86 IROC, 305 TPI, 700R4...
Either I am a dipstick, or I dont have an engine oil dipstick in my car. Shouldnt it be on the drivers side toward the rear of the engine, sorta near the brake fluid resivoir? I cant even find the dipstick tube, or anything that looks like it would even have been mounted to. I will even take some pix and post them come morning when there is enough light to see.
I found the AT one easily enough, between the engine and firewall on the passenger side.
TIA
James

I can buy that... I thot the last time I checked it that was where it was, but the original problem still stands: I CANT FIND IT!
Before you really start wondering about me, I have only had the car a few days now, so the last/only time I checked it was when I was looking it over before buying it. And I am used to my Dodge truck engine compartment.
And for the reason I was looking for it now...
I was driving home tonite, the car started losing power and making a knocking noise when trying to apply power, so I pulled it off the road into a parking lot and wanted to check the oil and coolant levels. The temp and oil pressure gauges were reading in the middle. I am going to have it towed into the garage tomorrow to see whats going on.

Yes, it is definitely on the pass. side, and if it has the original one, the tube should be fastened on one of the bolts holding the exhaust manifold. If the car has headers the previous owner may have customized it some to make it fit. I know I had to do that..
If you can't find it at all, get underneat the car and feel for the entrance hole to the oilpan right on the "inside" of the starter.

If it is the original engine then the dipstick will definitely be on the passenger side of the engine.

yea! Found the dipstick tube, but there is no dipstick there. Now to find one in the morning. It appears one of my major problems was a virtually empty radiator. Looks like I am going to have to keep a very close eye on that, at least until I can determine what is going on. Never did look into the radiator itself before, just went by the overflow container. What's one more problem amongst all the others
Thanks for your help
James
