Yup. Exactly. Good call on that one.

The RS in 87 was only in Cali and 88 was only available in Texas, Florida and Cali. All those cars you listed were available in all 50 states and Canada. The RS was officially introduced back to the entire public until 89. I did say it didn't exist and maybe I should have ellaborated myself more clearly and said: "Well it would be unusual to see a 87 RS, more than likely it was a LT or SC."

I don't know about you guys but in our area the stereotypical thirdgens (and musclecars in general) drivers are of the music-blasting ghetto punk variety. Then again this is Southern California (read LA)

i went to brother rice h.s. in bloomfield hills, mi. if you want to see rich snobs, this is the place, oakland county is the 2nd or 3rd richest county in the nation. i liked my school and most of the people there but they mostly drove newer cars and SUVs, one kid had a new vette (10.93 at 134 on slicks and 200 hp nOx). they were shcked the day i pulled up in my muddy 78 chevy beauville van with full hippie treatment. i got a lot of cut downs for it but when the summer came and my Z28 came out of hiding, they mostly all respected it. i guess that was because it looks clean, i don't have a ******, and it was the second fastest car in the lot (behind the nitroused vette).

It's true, people can spot a ******* in a battered thridgen, they are in a different category than a restored and fast camaro.

I was just nit-picking... I was in an argumentative mood... I've been arguing w/ some stubborn stang owners that most of the rumors in the Stang community about F-bodys also float around in the F-body community about Stangs... Anyhow, no hard feelings.

BTW what's wrong with being a hick? I rather enjoy the stereotype. When in conversation I say something that goes completely over their heads... due to differences in IQ... then they shut up.

BTW I washed and waxed my car since my last post.

I live in WV the heart of the ****** wearing, beer drinking, camaro driving stereo type and this about how it is.All the real rednecks have BIG *** monster trucks.you'll see some of them driving around in old clunkety beat up camaros and firebirds that are usually primered 5 different colors and have a muffler or something hanging off of it.But mainly the camaros and firebirds are owned by older mainly middle aged ppl who either bought them new and never got rid of them or bought the car they always wanted when they were younger and are nicely kept, usually original though. We also have what we call the Kids Club cuz it's all the guys who hang out at Burger King with there ricers. I can't wait for the day when i have a 300 hp + F-body and i can just do a burnout coming out of there and let them try to catch me.......Andy

What's wrong with Neons They are fun little cars, just not terribly fast in straight lines. Well, stock ones are slower than most thirdgens (At this point I invoke the Iron Duke clause ), mine definatly was. A serious F-bod would take mine in an autocross too, good thing for me there was only one at the non-SCCA events I went to.

or maybe it's got something to do with the fact that any time there's a car group gathering that doesn't deal 100% in domestics, there always seems to be a group of domestic owners who show up and try to start trouble.

I swear, in Michigan there was (don't know if there still is) a meet every Friday night just a bunch of car owners (some rice, some real cars like FD RX-7's, Supras, Viper, etc..) and about every time this group of ****** would show up in their Z28's, Trans Am's, and a few Corvettes.. they'd go waaay off to the other side of the lot and make lots of noise, squealing their tires as they came in and left (at 11:00 at night).. eventually the cops show up and kick everyone out because people complained about these morons. THAT is why I hate the whole "domestic vs import" attitude people have.

Matt, where in MI was that at, in Flint, or near your co-op? I'd have to say that in every crowd there are morons who feel they have to do that sort of thing. It's too bad they have to do it where others are gathered peacably

Alright, so I was out with my friend in his car and he wanted to stop at Dunkin Donuts. As we're going through the drive through this kid with this rusty-a** camaro (probably an 87 RS) backs out of his spot, spinning the tire, then guns it, spinning the tire. He stops and waits for everyone to applaude or something. Of course, anyone there that knew anything about cars just thought the fact that the car had to be power breaked to get the single right rear tire to spin was just laughing their a**es off. He starts talking sh*t about his car, so I told him that if he wanted to wait I'd go and get mine. I went home, grabbed my car, came back, and raced him. Absolutely blew the kid out of the water! We came back everyone is laughing at him. I told him that since I won I wanted his wheels (he had a nice set of 16 or 17 inch aftermarket wheels, his only mod). Now, I'll admit, it was sort of unfair, I mean besides his tires he didn't really do anything, that I could see, to the car, and I'm usually always doing something, but when your in a parking lot, pretending that your car is a beast, when it has never even had a tune-up, I think it gives all of us a bad name...

Just my thought,

You tend to get a lot of people thinking the whole ****** stereo type around here, but when people see my car they always compliment it. When you make your car look nice and mod it, and can actually tell people what your mods are without making stuff up then you get some respect. But I talked to this ******* dude with a 89' GTA the other day. I was like, "nice car, is it a GTA?" (it says GTA on the side of it) he replies, "what's a GTA?" "this is a farburd" my next question is, "you have any mods done to it?" ******* replies, "got me a gearbox. That car is a stock 350 5spd, it'll do about 180 mph easy" Okay, people like this should be shot, this gives me a bad name. WTF, there was never a stock 350 5spd. WTF is a gearbox? Is it the rearend gears? Transmission? and a stock GTA won't see 180, I'm sorry. People with no mods that talk a lot of cr@p really get on my nerves. It's always the people that can't back it up that run their mouths. That's why G O D invented street racing.

AMEN brother, tell the story!!! Welcome to West Virginia, land of monster trucks, ******s, and riced out neons. The only people who want to race you are the ones that don't have a chance, and everyone talks $hit about how badass their car or truck is, but when it's time to prove it there's always an excuse. One cool thing about this place is that if you have a nice clean F-body people will like it, I've never had anything but compliments on all of my cars, even from the ricers. BTW where in WV are you from??

I don't fit any of the stereotypes so Im doing good. I get alot of people complimenting me about how nice my car is...everyone also loves the sound. And somehow the word got around that it was the fastest car in my high school parking lot...(dont ask me how that one got started...there is a 96 SS, 96 formula, couple TAs and a few stangs)

But I do see alot of 3rd gens that fit the describtion to the dime....oh well

Ok we got to talk about the Ford guys PLEASE! Look at them! They are all very skinny, wear ford racing shirts with cutout sleeves, wear NAPA hats, tight jeans, and white shoes. Flowmasters+5.0 mustang = race car...comon now we should be doggin them they look to funny. I got in a fight awhile back with a mustang driver (over his girlfriend) he fit this describtion perfect...oh yeah and he got hurt to

Yeah i have seen alot of guys that fit the ****** description and a lot of punk a$$ kids that think there car is the sh*t. Most f-bombs here are trashed. Kids who want cheap muscle buy a pos camaro than think it is the best car ever and can whoop anything. I have only seen 1 good camaro in my school lot. It was a red 92 z28. With a 305 tpi. The rest were trashed belinettas and older like 85 and under camaros not even Z's. And one 6 cylinder trans am. And most are rusting. At wallmart where most of the ****** owners are take there crappy rusty not even primer cars most have bare metal exposed and a cracked nose. It is just so bad and they park there cars across 3 spots like there were affraid it was going to get hit. Most of these cars if got hit you would not even notice because they are so bad. And justthe other day a peeling paint old grey 89 rs is riding my a$$ of course the MONTE could have killed him but i decided to go 5mph and **** him off LOL. He was sum punk *** kid that thinks he is a street racer. And his car is loud because his exhaust is gone LOL. But yeah the cops up here always bust the camaro driver, I usually dont get picked on in the monte. Thank *** for the radar detector!

The situation here is the same, except for some guys. There are not really any ****** guys here, but there are the kids that think their stock RS 305's are highly tuned drag cars. One kid was running around talking about how his RS is so fast and how he has raced everyone and can beat anything. My freind challenged him to a race with his TGP, and the kid wussed out saying something about how he is taking his car to the shop so his dads freinds could drop in a bigger motor. He did not know what motor they were going to drop in but, they were going to drop one in. Then 1 year later, the engine is still on backorder There is a 91-92 305 Bird at my school that has some exhaust work done, the car is in nice shape, I know the person that owns it and he justs wants to keep his car clean. Then there is a super fast 2.8 Bird that has a horrible exhaust job and chrome trim everywhere. He is simply retarded, he raced some ***** last year that had a Civic Si, do not know what year, but was 95 or older, and the Si handed his *** to him. I could go on about the kids that think they are pro-stock car drivers and there cars are speed demons, but I will not waste my time as well as yours. Except for 2 kids that I know, one had a beautiful 85 T/A, and the other kid has a 99 Z-28, there parents bought them when they got their liscences The kid with the T/A wrecked it within 4 months into a tree, and the other kid with the Z-28 was speeding, I think 50 in a 40, in the rain, while going to work, he fishtailed his car and hit a telephone pole. The kids were lucky to walk away from their accidents unhurt.

Small note, if I am not mistaken, which I usually am, the 90+ L98s never came with t-tops stock.

And I am going to buy a beat 3rd gen, because I will not have that much cash on hand since I am in high school. I think it will be cheaper to restore anyways, and I will know what will be done to the car.

i'm the only one at my school with a 3rd gen! Everyone at my school drives imports. (actually one kid drives a rough 65 mustang, but i think its his dad's) I love the look on their faces when I show them my engine

ricers: "Holy ****, that engine's huge!" lol

They all think I have the fastest car at school (I don't think they've ever heard of an LG4) But it is the best shape for it's age IMOA

There is alot of import drivers up here to. I think I got the reputation for having a badass car because I was out revving my motor one day...not to be badass but I was trying to keep it running lol. The fuel pump was dieing and it didnt want to stay running. So I sat in the parking lot a few minutes giving it hell and everyone was like DAMN DUDE THAT THING IS A BEAST...i was like uuh yeah Ok. I think the farewell CMHS burnout helped the image to...ALOT of smoke and then of course i got pulled over but i just got a warning from a state cop!

Around here theres a guy that pulls his lawnmowing trailer around with a 2nd gen camaro. It's half primer/half white with "You grow it, we mow it" painted on the side.

Yeah 85_ZED28, everyone at my school thinks my Trans Am is the fastest car there as well. Its kinda cool. But its kinda not cause I doubt it's the fastest there, and then when they find out they will all make fun of it, even though I never said anything about it being fast.

I just tell the truth. "No, it's not fast. No, I don't like to take corners fast. I like to take them sideways though. Can your civic do that?"

edit; I do like to corner fast but I have a bike for that
The car is for drifting and drag racing*.

*next year, after motor swap(wouldn't want to embarass myself now)

Another topic back from the dead... reminds me that I still gotta get my "camaro on blocks kit" finished... just can't decide between the missing T-Top with a blue tarp duct taped over it, or the mismatched door on end leaning against the fender. Perhaps an option for either... But the 2x4 to prop up the hood... that was a no-brainer.

i love when people tell me i should have a ******.

dont have one though, i do listen to metal and rock, never been near a trailer park, and im about 3 months from a BSBA degree. id say i dont really fit the stereotype, but then again, most real gearheads dont anyways.

but thats not to say theres anything wrong with people who do.

best comment ever about my car happened at NED last year....some kid with a honda civic "that things a POS, RS's are all v6 or 305...." me, "nope none of that crap here" r*cer, "what you got some sh*tty 350?" me, "nope, wanna race?" r*cer, "ya"

result = camaro victory

i do live in a trailer. not in a trailer park though
i do live out in the country.
there are a few good cars at my school. thers my 87 bird. a really nice 86 maro sport coupe very well taken care of always looks nice but the kid thinks its the fastest thing in the world hes always flooring it around town but he doesnt drive it in the winter though thats a plus. my friends 82 berlinetta 2.8 carbed auto, this cars really beat. and a newer mustang cobra 4.6 5 speed. this kids ok but hes kinda cockey acting of coarse his grandpa bought him the mustang there was no way he could afford it. the rest of the cars are just normal nothin special. i do have the 2nd fastest car in school this year besides that mustang. hes a senior so the next 2 years i will be king of school last year there was a 87 z28 305 auto and a 88 transam 305tpi auto. both nice cars not driven in the winter. as for the rest of the town there are a few good thirdgens floating around but some i see are just beat up terribly.

My highschool (last year) had mostly Cavaliers and Sunfires and lots of junky pieces of **** (including mine). Most cars were there parents cars. I had the worst car at the school, my 83 Grand Prix 2 tone faded green (seafoam/dark green), rusted doors, rocker panels, frame, bumper sagging on the back. 3.8L V6 with no *****. I could only beat 2.2L Cavaliers. Nobody really cared though. They'd make fun of my car just in good humor. Oh ya the seats were ripped to hell too.

Now at college I actually have a decent car. The 87 Cutlass has almost no rust and the paint is in good shape. No ripped interior. All we have is stock ricers with rims and paint. 3 muclecars in the parking lot (68 Pontiac Beaumont, late 60's Lemans, and 60's Stang).

I haven't been able to get any **** races around here. The Cutlass has the LG4 and 2.93 gears plus its 3800lbs but its faster than what most people are driving. I raced my friends Sunfire GT from 55-120 and beat him by a car length. Raced my friends moms 98 Buick Century and beat it. (That one was good because the Buick felt fast and my friends were all telling me it would kill me). Killed an older style Intrepid and my friends 135hp Eagle Talon. All these guys were friends of mine except the Intrepid. Nobody wants to get beside a clean looking, dark colored Cutlass Supreme with the darkest tinted windows available, lookin like the mafias inside it. It seems like I scare everyone. I went by an intersection today and a ***** pulled out behind me I slowed right down hoping he'd get beside me. He was accelerating pretty quick until he got near me then he let off and went really slow and stayed behind me. I slowed down more and so did he. He really didn't wanna be beside me. They aren't afraid I'll beat them in a race, they're afraid I'll shoot them.

So you guys are all the typical white trash and I'm the typical gangster. (not really)

there are only 4 3rd gens at my school. I sold mine, so now there are only 3. My friend has an 89 RS 5-speed, who thinks he can out run anything. I ran consistant 16.7-16.8's in my firebird and he put half a car on me on the street. The other is a 91 v6 firebird POS. The other is a 89 Formula 350. The kid wrecked it after a month. It was a POS anyways. Now he has a half primered, half blue iroc. I wanted speed so i bought a 1995 T/A, maybe now i can beat someone

I don't see how any group of people can be stereotyped. I'll say this:

I have met, class-bigots, racsists, white trash, rap worshipers, snobs, punks...any kind of dirt you can name...driving camaros. But just like with races...that means nothing. If you get called a hick for driving a certain type of car, just call the accuser a racsist because that is what they are.
I've met alot of cool people here. And education has nothing to do with it. Alot of people get called white trash because of not finishing high school or going to college. Education does not impress me. I went to school 12.5 years counting kindergarten and alot of it just a waste of time. All you need is a good memory- which I do not have. Also helps if the school faculty itself doesn't have some serious issues against you. But that's just my experience- speaking only about high school, of course.
In short...calling someone "trash" because you suspect they may have failed Algebra or got sick of reading "Beowolf".....makes me laugh. I try my hardest not to prejudge anyone, but if I screw up, I get pissed off toward the rich-born, clear-headed because of a simple life, class favourite-type. Most of these people do not drive f-bodies- especially not 3rd gens. Some may drive 4ths but most...well, I suspect they are the ones calling you the most names.

Sorry for the long post. My question is: What is the stereotype about G-body drivers? More specifically, Olds drivers?

My guess would be gangsta wannabees or pimps? Never heard anyone say that about me but since the Cutlass is one of the most popular cars for pimping out. Almost all the Cutlass's around here are just beaters anyways except a few that I've seen.

My father in lay could classify as a hick....he's from this little two-stoplight town in tennessee, and is a firm believer in "shadetree mechanics"...i.e., chewing gum and bailing wire to fix that hanging exhaust pipe....and he just got an 86 (i think) vette... after he gave me his 84 Camaro SC and got rid of his Isuzu Rodeo..

Two-Stoplight Town?...in Tennessee? The hell you say. Where is he from? When I think of that description of the city, I think Lauderdale or Haywood County. But chewing gum and bailing wire? Sounds like a gifted Shelbyville mechanic...
Just kidding, I don't want to be making fun of your relatives or anything.

i did consider the other manifolds but like you said, emissions legal. im in chicago and they require tests every 2 years and i dont want to invest all of my money and have my license and plates pulled. i know its not the greatest but its better than a ported out TPI. as for upper RPM i dont do much on the track, mostly showing up ricers on streets, but if you have any ideas on how to make any of the other manifolds legal, id be more than happy to consider it, i barely have the bottom end done so theres time before i get to the intake.
