The reason we aren't liked---->

Alright, so I was out with my friend in his car and he wanted to stop at Dunkin Donuts. As we're going through the drive through this kid with this rusty-a** camaro (probably an 87 RS) backs out of his spot, spinning the tire, then guns it, spinning the tire. He stops and waits for everyone to applaude or something. Of course, anyone there that knew anything about cars just thought the fact that the car had to be power breaked to get the single right rear tire to spin was just laughing their a**es off. He starts talking sh*t about his car, so I told him that if he wanted to wait I'd go and get mine. I went home, grabbed my car, came back, and raced him. Absolutely blew the kid out of the water! We came back everyone is laughing at him. I told him that since I won I wanted his wheels (he had a nice set of 16 or 17 inch aftermarket wheels, his only mod). Now, I'll admit, it was sort of unfair, I mean besides his tires he didn't really do anything, that I could see, to the car, and I'm usually always doing something, but when your in a parking lot, pretending that your car is a beast, when it has never even had a tune-up, I think it gives all of us a bad name...

Just my thought,
-=-Mike

You're right. Sometimes people do fit the "80's F-body owner" stereotype. People like that give us a bad name, just like a lot of ***** punks give the legit import guys a bad name. At least somone showed up and smoked him in a F-body instead of a Civic SI showing up and roasting him. That'd make us all look even worse.

Naw... we haint liked all that much... Every little punk in a Neon wants to race me cause I drive a hick car. I should get another thirdgen, clear out the brush between driveway and road and put that puppy up on blocks...

I plan to market the "camaro on blocks w/o engine and hood supported by a 2x4" kit this fall. $999.99 or 3 easy payments of $333.33.

Hrm... I don't drink, but I can shoot good. I grew up in a trailer and like to listen to Ozzy. 3 outta 4 ain't bad, eh?

I still don't get ricers trying to race me. I built a rep with my VW, but I haven't even been given the opportunity with my Iroc. I've raced 1 ***** in the past 6 months, and that was such a ridiculous event I don't even acknowledge it. I must be driving in the wrong part of town or something.

I don't match any part of the description I wrote. I like guns, but I suck at shooting since my mom hates em and I've never had a chance to mess with em much.

Around here we pretty much have segregated street racing. One night of the week is domestics and a few imports. The other night is all ricers. Pretty nice actually.

Oh just pay no attention to that BS, I can't even believe people are actually out there that think that way, and if they do, they are idiots. Its so stupid, I don't know any F-Body owners personally that fit those descriptions.

haha, I've seen a few since I went to school in NC. But the cars usually aren't nice and even they'll admit that they aren't fast. Most of the ******* camaro's are simply used as transportation or rather as a storage shed in the Park. Since I've been home I've seen a lot of really nice ones that even my friend (who says constantly "get a new car, this ones old!") says, hey, I really like how these look! He even offered to buy mine off of me when I got back and gave him a ride again.

i can appreaciate a well-groomed ******, especially the ones that the females sport (fe******) or the ones of neighbors to the south wear (mexi******) but that rat tale has gotta go.

i wont comment on the gun issue.

Well I know the reason im not well liked is i wont let anyone with something slower talk trash about my car. Theres this kid at work, who I plan on calling out tonite about his 475 horse civic. Of course any bets on he left it home yet again? Maybe Ill have to settle for his buddies accord, which will also fall to its knees at the hand of my trans am.

Maybe a big problem is no real competition. There is very few muscle cars around here that kids drive, and Im a muscle car guy in an econo box world. People like people who like what they like. Im sorry, I cannot bear to be around people who think a civic is a viable race car.

Dont get me wrong, there is some kids i respect with imports, but if your gonna make fun of my car for being slow, you damn well better be able to back it up.

The caddy's are gonna smoke us my man! I have the utmost respect for those things, even if they are driven by old people... My dad has smoked so many camaro's and mustangs in his Deville. Keep in mind that thing weighs like 4500 lbs (?)...

But I do have to agree about the cavalier...

Gotta love the ******... I saw a kick a** one the other day...

Okay I will admit that recently the 3rd gens around here are fitting the stereotype! Most are 305 tbis or V6s and the kids think they are unbeatable! Most havn't been washed for months and are dirtier than the 4x4 trucks! At my school there are three IROCs, and only one is decently cared for. There is one Firebird, it's a 1990 (I think) 305 TBI and he thinks its the fastest car in the world! He does occasionally wash it but he does't mod it. All the third gens I see driving around and I don't know the owners are either primer or multi colored and rusting! I wish more people would take care of their third gens!

Well, I must say that most people around here are, like, "dude, you got a CAMARO!!!! SWEET!" Probably 'cause I live in a rural area. Although, there was this one chick that I worked with that was rather impressed...and she was FINE! ....if only I wasn't married....*sigh*.....

Well, I don't know about any1 elses area, but our cars are liked here and its just cool dudes that appreciate nice cars that own F-Bodies. I see more of them in better condition than the M******gs, although there is alot that are taken care of also. We have a nice mixture of cars here, and you can't go by a description like in this post on the drivers. That stuff is just stupid BS to me.

Just to clarify, my post was complete sarcasm. Considering the only part of our stereotype I match is that I listen to metal and rock. When someone is serious with a description like that I can't do anything but laugh.

Most people where i live think my car is cool, even some of the ricers. There is only 2 guys i've heard talk **** about my car. One drives a Cavilier with a body kit, euro clears, and a liscense plate reading, "I RUN NOS"(the car doesn't have nitrous). The other drives an almost stock lt1. The best part is, neither will say anything to my face. They will just say it to my friends.

i will agree with that cuz when i was in high school i was the only person with a thirdgen. I went to a school with mostly caprices (tbi) or towncars and they would actually think just cuz it had a v8 that it was fast. I knew my 86 305tpi iroc was by no means a a rocket but it had a enough go power to blow the doors off of those buckets. A couple of years have pass and i go pass the high school and it looks like a import show they'll c my iroc and they'll rev it up but i decide notice 3 thirdgens up there. Unfortunately two 2 are v6 and the other appears to be a tbi formula. the one camaro is 85 2.8 v6, two tone( white and black) with mag wheels and jacked up in the rear. The owner swears that it can beat me i just shake my head cuz it's not even worth my time.

sorry for writing a story

Out here, there are quite a few sweet and soon to be sweet muscle cars, just to be out numbed by the typical ricers(few execptions). School is out soon here(June 14th=Graduation, woohoo! ), and after my class leaves, its basicly gonna be a school full of ricers, what a shame. Looks like im gonna have to beat on some high school ricers that really deserve it.

Here's a misconception...

BumpaD82.........
You ever have dumbasses come up to you and say, "Is that fast?"
How do you politely answer such a question?

Where I live no one has ever asked me if my car is fast, they only ask what kind of stereo system I have. And then they think my car is crap just because I don't have 8,000,000 "subs" in my trunk.

I bought mine after high school (2001)

We had a few thirdgen's, three nice ones, and a few other beaters (I'm not including mine because I didn't own it until after school)

One was a 1990 Iroc, B2L, yadda. Loaded. Kyle got the car in 2000, and toyed with it a few times, but has left it mostly stock. He says the car in stock form is scary enough for him. This car has rarely seen rain since he has owned it. 95k miles or so on the clock last time I saw the car.

1985 Trans Am with 30-ish k miles upon the time of my graduation. Ben is a jock, and has had his car vandalized a few times at school. Like Kyle's Iroc, Ben's T/A rarely sees rain. I'm guessing the clock is still under 40k.

The third nice one was a 1992 RS fully loaded, but came with a v6 and auto. Nice car, except for the lack of power. J.R. is another nice guy, kinda laid back. The clock shows under 110k last I knew, and does have a nice set of rims.

Two trashed-out Sport coupes, an 86 and 87.

An 87 firebird that the girl thought a 2.8 could outrun a Statie in a Crown Vic. She was wrong, got nailed for 112 in a 65.

A second gen (1981) owned by a buddy of mine. He'll talk good-natured junk, but he doesn't actively try to start stuff. He'll run with ya. Kind of a beater car, but it's his pride and joy. I gotta give him that much

The guy with the 90 Iroc, his cousin had an 88 Monte SS. Nice girl, and a nice car.

That was pretty much the scene at my high school.

College, one of my Lab partners had a 1990 RS that he was doing appearance mods to look like an Iroc. Last I knew, he was planning a LT1 (4th-gen) and t-56 swap. Josh's car showed 105k the last I knew.

My car is kind of a beater (looks good from far away), but will be toyed with. The car has approx. 165k miles on it.

No ****** here.
I can shoot my 12 gauge pretty well.
What bullseye? (Keep in mind, a 12 gauge)
I don't like metallica.
I drink beer.
My car isn't on blocks (sits on 14's right now). I dunno which one is worse......

2 out of 6..... I'm not 80's material.

The reason why your hated is because you stereotype other people and they stereotype you therefore starting a pointless "flamewar"
Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not everyone will respect other opinions therefore resulting in this type of mess.

I think the guys who think their civic hatchback is on the cutting edge of technology and the guys who think their tbi 305 camaro is unbeatable come from the same gene pool. The person who comes to mind is a kid I know who's asking if I'll help him put a TPI 350 in his tbi 305 "IROC", but still has never looked at a tech article on this site like I've told him to. This kid really thought I was going to schedule his motor swap in with rebuilding my suspension, putting in a pro-built, and doing test and tune with my malibu. THIS is the type of DA that gives us a bad name. Although it was entertaining listening in on a conversation between him, another kid who says he "tunes turbos" by "changing the seals" that"always get damaged in shipping" and adjusting the "universal bolt", and a kid who's "putting an 800hp, twin turbo, 350" in his IROC convertible. Too Fing funny.

I have a 305 TBI, and I know it's slow...I don't even talk like it might be fast...

Anyways, when sombody at school asks me what kind of car i have, I tell them a camaro. They ask the year, I tell them 92. They make a funny smile, sort of cough and say POS. They find it even funnier when they find out that I have a RS. Nobody here know's jack about cars here, and they all think that if it didn't come stock super fast, then it's not fast and never will be fast. WTF are they thinking The only vehicals respected around here are either really old cars that the owner doesn't know anything about working on them so all they are is all show and no go, new cars, and gay as$ trucks that are jacked up fifty stories. The funny thing is that nobody knows anything about fixing their car or modding their car. Most cars around here stay stock so eveyone thinks that if a camaro isn't either old or very new, then it's junk. My dad and I do all of our own car work, and soon I'm gonna make those jack as$es that say my car is junk **** in their pants. When I beat them they'll be like "but..but...it's only a old slow 92 RS..." That will be the day...

Sorry, but I had to vent about all the stupid people in queer..i mean deer park.

(not going into the whole police package 350 thing)
RS was started in 67 (I thought we were talking about thirdgens in this post, not first gens). There was no 87 RS. 1987 held the LT, Z28 and IROC. 88 was SC and IROC. 89 was RS and IROC.

If you don't believe me, go post a topic on the history board about it.

Actually there was an RS in 87 and 88. The 87 was only available for Cali and the 88 was only available for cali and florida.

That's true, but I didn't even consider that since it was only offered in two states and hardly any were dealt out. Does anyone on this board have a 87 or 88 V6 RS?

So, if a car is too rare it doesn't exist? If you knew that the car was reintroduced in 87 in two states then why did you say there were no '87 RS's?

So, are there '92 Firehawks or '89 Turbo Trans Ams or '87 GNX's?
