[305 TPI] Car runs terrible after replacing injectors (very rich?)
Hi all,
I think my old injectors were leaking, since I was having hard starts when the car was warm. The injectors in the car were Bosch 0280 155 771 (EV6 CL?) injectors. This site (https://www.injectorplanet.com/produ...-ford-f73e-b5a) lists them at 18.1 lb/hr, which I think is leaner than the recommended 19lb/hr for this engine. I replaced them with these 19lb/hr supposedly-compatible injectors (https://www.ebay.com/itm/354844107544) which were rated for 19lb/hr and listed by the seller as compatible with the 305 TPI. I'm guessing they weren't, since the car now runs like a boat belching black smoke out the back and can't hold idle.
What are the details you look for to determine whether fuel injectors are compatible with your vehicle? Clearly the seller info isn't trustworthy in this case. Are injectors something you can swap and expect to run? Or do they always require some kind of ECU tuning to make work?

No need to look for details, just put the Delphis in from Southbay and it'll be good.

Those cross reference to Ford FOTE-D5A. Evidently 20 lb/hr @43 psi.
So they're already ~5% bigger than the factory 19 lb/hr. Plus potential issues with the voltage offsets in the PROM calibration...
Then the variable of dealing with Ebay sellers... (who knows what it is they're doing with these things).
As was said earlier, probably get some Delphis if you don't want to deal with calibration issues.

Should have bought the additional $7.99 protection plan from Allstate.

Thanks for the ID. I was able to get a refund from ebay since these injectors were incorrectly listed as 19lb/hr rather than 20lb/hr
Also, I guess my big remaining question is whether you need to re-tune the ECU after replacing injectors that are the same flow rate as the old ones. The other threads I've seen on this forum mention having to change "offsets" and timing things in the computer? Or is that only if you're changing the flow rate with the new set of injectors?

Unless the injectors have major differences in flow and voltage offsets you will be fine without tuning. Get the ones linked on post 5 or delphis. Amazon and for the most part eBay is not the place to shop for injectors.

I would make it easy on yourself and just call SouthBay Fuel Injectors. Tell them what you want and they'll get you set up with quality stuff.

Hey...just saw your post. Sorry you're having issues with injectors. give us a call. We'll be more than happy to help you. Unfortunately there is one glitch....the delphi injectors have been on backorder for the past few months. Not sure when we will be getting them in

I've been watching that, need a set of 22s
Re: [305 TPI] Car runs terrible after replacing injectors (very rich?)
Thanks for the into everyone. I decided to increase my budget to a blistering $60 for the set, and installed these refurbs also from ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/293746120349
Also was able to get a full refund for the set that was 20lb/hr, since they were incorrectly described. Ebay has a great warranty process for auto parts.
I installed them in the engine and they work great! Warm starts are successful, no leaks, idles smooth as glass. The injector part number was 0280155771. The manufacturer part is FJ310, which I think are injectors made by Standard Motor Products. Hopefully that part number is generally the correct one to use for 305 TPI engines

Hopefully they last, seems way to cheap for China injectors for them to actually work well and last.
Re: [305 TPI] Car runs terrible after replacing injectors (very rich?)
just my 2 cents. Be very careful what you buy on ebay. Each of those injector is $7 ea. That's a red flag. If you look on the injector there are no part numbers. I'm not telling you this because I'm trying to get you to purchase from us.... that's not my intention at all....Just a little insight. We clean and flow many injectors that appear to be from china ...they flow all over the place. Especially when we flow them dynamically. However there are plenty out there that work totally fine.
The part number 280155771 is a cream colored injector...it's an actual core this injector is blue. Anyway I hope they work well for you and they solve your problem

Glad they are working good for you. I too understand needing to save money where possible.
I researched that Ebay seller and saw a lot of negative reviews, many of which had to do with low quality injectors and some noting they were Chinese knock-offs.
I went with the Southbay Delphis on my L98 a few years ago and have been very happy with them. It was money well spent.

I also went with them on some injectors for a special project I was working with on my Miniram 383. They helped me do the research on what I needed then supplied the injectors at a very fair price. Very high quality products.
