New Project RS vs. LS1 T/A ?

OK in >>>THEORETICAL<<< terms , if I were to combine the >>>THIRDGEN<<< 5-speed RS Im looking at, with a 406 I've got lying around what kind of quarter mile times could I run? And In a >>>THEORETICAL STREET RACE<<< , how would I fair against a '02 WS6 T/A?

The car is an '89(I think) RS hard top with a TBI 305 5-speed and an unknown rear axel.

The motor is a 406 w/ domed pistons that equal 11.5:1 compression with 76 cc chambers / heads are #882 ( yeah I know) with a good 3 angle valve job and 2.02in. 1.60ex. valves / Edelbrock Torquer II intake and 750 Holley 3310 / hydraulic cam with .488"in. - .510"ex. lift, 308*in. - .318*ex. adv. duration / Its been balanced, the most important things have been checked out, and it has all new bolts through out.
The Desk Top Dyno says ( again, yeah I know) that I'll make 405hp @5500 and 409 ftlbs @ 4500, so lets play it safe (?) and say 370 hp and 390 ftlbs (?).

Im not yet sure what I'll do for exhaust yet but rest asured Im not going to use the stock ****. I'ld like to go with decent headers, y-pipe, No cat, and a good cat back exhaust.
What gears did 305 5-speed RSs typicaly come with?

I say you would proably take the LS1. If you raed in the quarter vs. top end. And is the desktop dyno the year 2000 edition?

3.08's are the gearing i believe. I got lucky and got the posi too. Watch that T5 tranny though...there not the best at handling big power combos.

Do the swap and I'll race ya

Seriously, a 406/5 speed combo should be faster than a stock LS1. I'd even say you should hit mid 12's at least...that is if you can find traction (can you say drag radials?). And if you do find traction off the line, say goodbye to the 10-bolt. The stump pulling torque a 400 produces likes to break stuff.

Less talk, more action.

Get your sh*t together and do the swap!

theoretically, you would break a t-5 in half. they can barely handle the torque of a 305, there is no way in hell it would last the torque of a 406 for any period of time.

Transmission: A 700R4 that has trouble handling the formentioned 350.
Totally not true. The T-5 will handle the torque from a 406 as long as you never catch traction . My T-5 lasted me 6,000 hard miles and the guy that has my car now still has the T-5 in it, no problems. And my 406 had gobs or torque. Although most T-5's can't handle a 406 torque.
But it will be a fun ride until you blow the tranny.
Later, Garrett

thats the main reason why I havent gotten drag radials, because I'm afraid of blowing my tranny. I'm not real concerned about the rear, I've got a 9-bolt sitting in my garage if I need it, but I just semi-rebuilt the tranny this summer. I bought another T-5 for $100 that had good synchros in it and swapped those in. Seems to be holding up great, but I'm not sure what will happen if I ever get good traction. guess we'll find out!
