IROC,
A squid is a loose term. It's eaiser to give examples of a squid than explain it.
A squid wears a wife beater and shorts while riding, rather than jeans and a jacket. Goes 120 in a 50, weaves in and out of traffic. Rides well beyond his abilities. Typically can't corner well, afraid to lean the bike.
Talks himself up as some kind of awsome rider. Buys a way bigger bike than he can handle (600+) and thinks its fine
Everyone has alittle of that guy in us, the important part is not to let him out
If your interested in a bike, check out many of the bike forums, they have great info (i would go into elaborate detail, but i feel we are drifting away from 3rd gen related material

)
DEFINATLLY take a MSF training class. WELL worth the money. And Don't think your learning stops after the class is over. I got a 100% on my riding test in the class, and I can honestly say when I got on the road, I still couldn't ride for crap. Probably still can't now by racing standards, but I am safe on the street
And don't make the mistake of buying a bike that is too much for a beginner. I'd say if your looking at sportbikes, go smaller than 600ccs. If you absolutly have to have a 600, get one used. Most new 600's (2003+) can run 10's with a pro rider. So don't get caught up with the latest and greatest. And remember, be safe, keep your ego in check and have fun!
And to keep this thread headed in a non-locked direction

. A cheap way to take down crotch rockets would be a LS1+T56 and a stout cam. MANY MANY people are running low 11's with cam only LS1's. And that is enough to take down probably 75% of the riders out there. And you can get engine and tranny combos on ebay for about 3-4 grand anymore.
