Friday Night Run (GT stangs)

Cruised around tonight looking for some races. Came up to a light behind a red fox body mustang GT, around a 89 i believe. Light turned green and we made a turn, saw it was a 5spd when he took off, then he floored it and switched to the left lane in front of a truck. I sped up but didnt cut in front of the truck, but finally it opened up where I could move over. Once we passed some cars in the right lane i moved over into it but there was still a car in front of him. Came up on a red light and i saw the car in front of him was around a 98 gt from the same car club. Light turned green and i barely stepped on it seeing if he was gonna go. He stepped on it and I did right after he did. I was at 15 mph and in 2nd at the time and spun a little bit, he didnt but i still managed to jump about a car on him. I guess he was slowing the fox body down b.c the fox body jumped out from behind him and stepped on it. It was a little late for him tho because i was already gaining speed quick. Had to shut down because we were coming up on a light and stopped traffic. By that time I had about 4 1/2 cars on the 98ish gt at around 60 mph. We werent beside both were beside me a car back at the light(fox body moved back to the left lane) and both were reving like crazy, both were very loud cars, so i had to throw some back. Light turned green but we didnt get a chance to run them again because because of traffic and they turned left a couple more lights down to go into the mall. I can imagine the guy in the fox body was frusturated being behind the other GT at the first part. Would have been of been a good run between me and him if he didnt have any heavy mods.

Came home early tonight b.c i wanted to pick up food and eat. But on the way out of the parking lot of subway(subs not train), I passed by the local racer hangout and there was ppl around a red 3rd gen RS camaro. Every around it looked over at me cuz i was still in 1st, so i stepped on it real quick and spun them for a sec. That was about the extent of my night though.

what do you have done? a stock 98 gt would be quite a handful for an l98. 4.5 cars by 60? He could not even be racing and stay closer than that... hmm

A 98 is a slow car, high 14s at best, so 4.5 cars is believable... The fox should have been a much better run assuming he had exhaust or more.

98 gts a handful? Theyre the slowest GTs. They edge out 305s, and if they are poorly tuned a 305 with a good driver is capable of staying with or might even beat them barely.

I couldnt tell what the fox had down because it had old stock looking turn down pipes in the back. It was loud, but it could have been the old muffler just worn out. All i could tell is it had a fresh coat of red paint.

Highest I have seen outta a stock 99-04 stang gt is a flat 14..... With your average mustang driver they generally run mid to high 14's. With a good driver they can get into the high to mid 13's stock.. With mods they get a little faster.. so nothing a slightly modded 305 stick or L98 shouldn't be able to handle in stock form.

well me and my friend raced a 99+ gt with a 1994 z28 (mostly stock besides a intake and flowmasters) and we smoked the crap out of it. i know it was a 5-speed because he kept rolling back and forth. i think it had an exhaust on it because it was pretty loud but gts are very loud stock anyways so idk.
