We all know what a V6 will loose to. What can it beat that is a semi-respectible car?

Unless the bike has a 3.5 hp briggs and straton then you might need to install a full exhaust

You can always catch someone (or bad driver) on a bad day. It is too tough to itemize the cars that you "could" beat. Any car that is up to 20 years old could various times on the track. Assuming your car is running in tip top shape a fully optioned 2.8 F-bod will run high 17's if not slower in the 1/4. the 3.1 cars fare better and gutted f-bods with 3.4 swaps run the fastest. You will really only be able to run with super economy 4 cylinder automatic sedans that were made in the last 5 years. Even the weakest of modern 4 cylinders out there make more power than the 2.8. I would stick to base kia's, Aveo's, and hunday's.

If it's a stock 2.8 or 3.1, most newer cars will be able to take it. However, if you really build it and build it well, you can actually do a few things. There are some fast V6's out there, but if you actually want to race it against anyone, you'll have to do a heck of a lot. My old setup beat every 305 I ran against, but that took a lot to get to that point including a 75 shot of giggle juice.

Feed it a 150 shot win a few races with it and invest in a V8 swap when it blows, or just drive it every day and be happy not racing it. The V6 camaro's are pretty weak but they will respond to the import tuning stuff just as well as any overseas engine. Several guys on here run V6 turbo's that put down some good times. Your best bet for an economical racer will be a V8 swap, but if you want to you can expand on the V6 platform qutie a bit. In stock trim, you're not going to win many and those you do win won't be very impressive, it will just be the other guy saying "Dude I ran within a car length of a Camaro in my Kia Sephia!". Now if you do something ridiculous to it (150 shot cough cough) and beat something you never should've ran with it'll be the polar opposite "Dude how did you get that little V6 to do that!".

A newer 3.8 s/c from a bonneville of gtp would be awesome. For that much $ and work you can build a nice 350.

Spray the **** out of it, beat a couple of stock mustangs, do a motor swap after it blows.

I'm not asking what I can beat. This is for all of the other guys who think that thier V6 can beat modern muscle. I don't plan on doing much racing until I rebuild my motor in the future.

You would own a 4cylender 3rd gen, all the way to the track and back. Although i havnt seen one on forever, there are some 4 cylender mustangs you would own. Best info i can think of.

You can beat-
Non-Vtec, four-door, automatic honda and acura 4 cylinders (of yesteryear)
Fox body four cylinder automatic Mustangs
Ford Courier trucks
Chevy Luv trucks
Non-turbo Diesel Chevrolet Suburbans (circa 80's)
Geo Metro (3 cylinder version) coupe or sedan
Any Yugo
VW Busses and Bugs
Other 2.8 V6 Camaros and Firebirds, some 3.1 V6's (state of tune)
Automatic Pontiac Fieros
Automatic Toyota MR2 (mid 80's non turbo)

The list will go on and on. Basically, I think that most underpowered, automatic 4 cylinders are mincemeat to the 2.8. Good luck

You can beat every 4 cylinder fox body except for the SVO. The pre 92's run 19's - 20's. The 92 - 93 is a little faster, but not much. I went 17.93 in my '93 4 cyl/5 speed lx which so far has been the fastest I've seen/heard of one go stock.

it depends my black car was a 3.1 and it wasted my red car 305 and i used to play with older v8 3rd gens i raced and won a few but also lost a few

it all depends really i would beat my freinds 5.0 93 mustang up till 40 every time but after that he would come flying by so i would win stop light to stop light but he would crush me at and longer runs

or better yet wait till a corner and use your better handleing to blow by them

I know it "feels" faster than my truck(4.3 auto).....but that might not be the case....I've never really beat on the Camaro much so I don't know what the 2.8 can do(if anything)

If you wanted to run 1/8's you might be able to do alright, the 6's generally had lower gears in the rear...of course my dad worked with a guy that built a beatle 2cylinder that would spank any chevelle for the first half of the quarter...I'd hate to get beat by something like that...

Probably what I mean by respectable is saying I beat a Civic Vtec instead of a minivan. Mainly cars that the V6ers are up to par with.

I beat:
92 Subaru Legacy FWD from 0-55
90's Laser from 55-80
97 Escort 0-60
I am pretty much tied with a 93 Buick Century. Me and my friend run every once in a while, everytime it's a toss up.

As for the pics of the iron duke:

** I'll get them later. My comp. is being rediculous.

This one was at Carlisle a few years ago. IIRC it had something like 13k-24k miles on her. Beautiful car.

Here's my Iron Duke Firebird. Its an 84 with a 5 speed manual. I haven't EVER beaten any other car. I've only out accellerated semi trucks and pedestrians. It may only have four cylinders but its still a Firebird.

Up to about 45mph, the fuel injected 2.8's and 3.1's will usually outperform stock low output 305's. Only because of the gearing. 6cyl = 3.23 or 3.42 gears, 305/auto usually have 2.73's.

I think the stock HP rating is 95. I don't know the torque. Just from driving the car, it doesn't have much torque at all.

My ex gf had an '87 Camaro with a 2.8... Now I don't know what in the world was done to it, but it kept up with an beat a '02 Grand Marquis once it hit its governor at 106 with the 4.6L V8. Had the most get up I have ever seen with a 2.8.... I know the exhaust was broke off and the muffler was missing... Sounded tough for a 6cyl.

Re: What can a V6 beat?

What about with some light mods say cai, pacesetter headers a posi rear with better gears and a gutted car. Would it beat my gf 93 civic hatch with later model 16valve non tech engine 5 spd and a 3 1/2" fart can.. I know she'll catch me in the long run but will I at least rip h

Re: What can a V6 beat?

Unfortunately not much, I know that I could take a 92 3.1 auto in my 88 accord LXi we raced often. Probably just much older 4cyl auto cars.

You will really only be able to run with super economy 4 cylinder automatic sedans that were made in the last 5 years. Even the weakest of modern 4 cylinders out there make more power than the 2.8. I would stick to base kia's, Aveo's, and hunday's.
A member Skyset has proven the Aveo to be more predator the prey, he even has a thread about it. IIRC he has an L98 car now.

Re: What can a V6 beat?

i dont think any 2.8 will beat a 305, way to give the guy false hope:P the 305 isnt outstandingly powerful i could just imagine a mid 80's camaro with a engine half the size of the 305, (stock vs stock) 17 second 1/4 mile thats as fast as my 05 safari van
