92 RS VS 89 IROC

A few months ago my buddy bought an 89 Iroc with 350 TPI but here is the catch, it's supercharged. All I know is it is a Procharger with a 2 core intercooler. His supercharger only puts out 4-6 psi and it doesn't hit any psi until about 4000 RPM. His only other mods are bigger injectors (not sure how big), headers, and flowmaster exhaust. Now for my car, it is a 92 RS with a 350 out of a 74 Nova. I have installed a new cam intake lift/duration 465/282 exhaust lift/duration 488/292, Edelbrock 4bbl 750 cfm carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, hedman headers, full magnaflow exhaust, cat delete, K&N air filter, 190 stat, and an electric fan to help keep me cool. I have also removed most of my AC components, my spare tire and jack, light weight starter. He has done no weight reduction infact he has a custom sub box weighing 30lbs, 2 12 inch subs totaling at 36lbs, and 2 amps with a custom built rack 27lbs. So I have lost about 57 lbs where as he has gained 93lbs. He talks mad **** about how his car is way faster, honestly I'm not overly concerned just curious let me know what you guys think.

Re: 92 RS VS 89 IROC

Change the heads, pistons, converter, gears, and throw the AFB in the garbage. Start with that and go from there. The IROC doesnt sound like it would be too fast, but you have a long way to go to keep up with him.

Re: 92 RS VS 89 IROC

You were saying that he only gets boost around 4000+ rpm... Better re-think that.. If it is pro-charger he is getting minimal boost at idle.. But 4-6 lbs through an intercooler is actually around 8.. It is just a denser and cooler charger which makes it that much better especially for the engine. A quick easy way to have a better race is to use N2O.. But, if you engine is not up to snuff,, Too much NOS, and you can use a wheel barrow to recover the rest of your engine to take it home. Been there and done that once before. Your best and most logical bet would be costly but ..

Heads, Cam, Exhaust..

Re: 92 RS VS 89 IROC

He has a boost gauge in his car an i have watched it. He doesnt get any boost until right around 4000rpm another one of my friends has also noticed this same thing. I found that surprising myself i thought that he should have boost earlier as well.

Re: 92 RS VS 89 IROC

That is unusual. I have increasing boost as I accelerate.. Because it is belt drive there is always quite a bit of air coming from the S/C.. Before I put the pipe from the S/C to the plenum, I accelerated to around 1500rpm, there was enough air coming from the S/C to actually hurt your hand... Anything is possible I guess.

Re: 92 RS VS 89 IROC

wonder if that blower car also has heads / big cam. if the engine is a high enough flowing "air pump" in its n/a form could it actually be eating the air coming from the blower up till a higher airflow output?

sounds like a ****ing beast to me.

Re: 92 RS VS 89 IROC

Prochargers are centrifugal chargers. He has boost before then, just not as much as then. Might not have his gauge adjusted right as well.

Race him. Let us know how it goes.
