To hell with political correctness. I hate those rice burning jap cars and all the other foreign crap. We live in the USA and should support our auto makers. It has everything to do with the badge. I have 6 cars in my driveway and none are up on blocks. My 3500 sq foot house isnt a trailer. I wear t shirt on the weekend and ties on the weekdays. I am in the upper 10% of the tax braket, and I STILL DRIVE A 87 FIREBIRD.

not really my battle here, but honestly I dont like the hondas and acuras, and mazdas and mitsubishis and what not, I am absolutely in love with third gen camaro and firebirds...but some people like their imports. Thats all their choice, I had an rx-7, and it was pretty quick, I will gladly admit that, a friend of mine has a turbo 2 rx-7 and he blew the doors off a 95 vette! as long as the driver isn't just going for all show and no go...he/she should be allowed to drive and like what they want without being criticized. This is a forum basically built for support, not the opposite.

thank you mortell. it's not that I want people to like imports or for that matter any car. as you guys say this is a thirdgen forum so yes I understand it is biased towords thirdgens, but that doesn't mean we shoudl go off disrespecting others just based upon their car choice, or to really even disprespect the car itself.

rideon not trying to start an arguement on this one but the support the badge and support the country thing is starting to blur a little bit with auto makers any more. import makers are bringing factories here and bringing lots of money into our economy through the sales, service, and employees plus many other ways. a lot of domestic makers are starting to create factories outside of the US which while sure it it still brings some money in to our economy it also throws some of it outside by giving other countries jobs our people here could use. not saying you shouldn't support GM if that's what you want to do that's cool just find that weird when someone says something like that as it's almost like an import does nothing to help us out. and BTW buying an 87 firebird isn't going to help GM out anymore as your a little late on that one

You guys sound like the type of people I like to hang with. Nothing in my driveway that wasn't designed in Detroit. Like I said, I can respect anything thats fast, but I couldn't bring myself to own one. My 86 F-body hits the road on a regular basis also, just cause! I'm not in that "upper" tax bracket, but I own my home (no wheels underneith it), white collar job it all week long, and kick back otherwise.

does it matter what your income is? kids drive cheap cars, people with out money can't afford a corvette, it's just the facts or else you'd see every ******* in a dodge viper or something, these cars are affordable of course they will end up in the hands of those who can afford them.. if you have 2000 bucks for a car, and you've got a an 80's caprice, a 93 escort, or an 89 firebird, what do you choose? what would anybody who wants a lil bump from the gas petal go with?? just think about it..

and as far as imports go, trust me the big three are about as shady as they come, it's all just money does it matter who's pocket it goes in? OUR government makes more off imported cars then domestic ones anyways, you support the usa if you want to or not.

the poor white trailer park trash stereo type needs to go. upper 10% here, got a nice house, a RV, 3 cars..... still wear t-shirts blue jeans and cowboy boots, money isnt crap, i been on top and on the bottem, granted less worries on top, its nice to have a problem and not worry about how to cover it, but heck as long as you are alive, got good friends, got good family that cares (if its 1 family member or 20) and a roof over your head.... well then you are ok, everything happens for a reason, what dont kill us will make us stronger..........

but on the subject i cant hate on Hondas to much, i got a 05 Accord VTEC V6 fully loaded, far from junk and the ONLY import i own, was just the best i could find for having good power, commfy, loaded, and good MPG's .... BUT I HATE CIVICS AND 4CYL HONDAS THAT THINK THEY ARE SUPER FAST, AND THAT GOES DUBBLE FOR ANYTHING WITH A FART CANNON!!

amen to taht. except I didn't have much of a choice on the fart cannon part. my exhaust was falling apart and it was either spend 500+ for a decent exhasut either stock that woudl fall apart again ni months or aftermarket or buy a 300 buck exhaust from a not so well known company that makes fart cannons and will last me... sadly cheap fart cannon won due to price but hey my honda is wisper quiet

I didn't want to start a fight here and I'm not in the upper 10% or nothing but to bring us back on point, this is a camaro and firebird forum here and I can understand why a person would get ticked if you started to talk positive about imports. I'm not a huge import fan but I can respect them. This post started out as a question if I could beat an import, not if my car is better than an import. I know my car isn't cool or pretty but that wasn't what I was referring to. Just to get you all back on track, I will be racing a Chevy Beretta next week. I think it will be close. Chevy motor against Chevy motor. This will be fun. It looks like a 3.1 with a custom spectre induction system and a big exhaust. He also has some weird looking wheels and a wing but that doesn't mean anything bad, it's a chevy and he might win. I'll keep you updated. And for this one, I'll be taking out the subs, backseats, passenger seats, and hopefully get out anything heavy before we race. This will make it even for the both of us cause his car is lighter than mine.

I dunno bout that but I hope it's a 3.1 because it says it on the front fender right by the lights. Maybe it's somethin' better but I'll wait and see. It is louder than my car by a long shot. It sounds like a 95 Taurus with nothing after the exhaust manifolds. Ask me how I know what that sounds like! Lesson is, don't try to jump a curb at 50 mph in your brother's taurus!

It isn't one of those ***** aluminum WINGS. It like one of our "sporty" looking flat spoilers. My point is, if he has the money to make the car look good, he has the money to make the car fast. I like people that do something different. I used to do saturns and I would bury imports. And that's with a saTURD. I think it's cool that someone does something different and not buy the common tuner cars. It I saw a geo metro with a 502 ram jet, I would think that would be cooler than a dodge SRT-4! I like to see what can be done with other cars. They took the risk to go where other people haven't gone and it is a good learning experience for all of us. Like me, I was made fun of for modding a saturn by the civic crowd and they told me to buy a "real" tuner car. Yeah, they weren't talking after I kicked the crud out of them and there are saturn a hell of a lot faster than what I did.

you can build anything, and it's good that a limited few with an excess of cash do, but in the end the cheapest means to an end is to buy the car that is closest to doing what you want it to do, like go fast.. berretta? with a wing? possibly a gtz, nice looking but nothing special undr the hood, now the fiero's came with a similar motor, and no one talks about what they run... hell i never even saw one at the track so no clue...

I went up against a stock v6 fiero with my stock v6 firebird....mine was a 92, both automatics. I beat him in a quarter mile by about 1 1/2 car lengths....I dont know the time cause it was just this out of city road with a quarter mile marked with spray paint....(dont know who did that :P)

I should smoke the Beretta but if you want to talk $#!T about those people that go a different route, think about what we are doing. People would say, why not a vette, or a viper, or a such and such. The reason is because we are determined to do what needs to be done in order to beat the cars that from the factory, faster than us. Time and time again I have seen LT-1 camaros kick the crap out of ZR-1 vettes. Why is this? Its because with all of our knowledge combined, we are better than any rich @$$ **** that drops 50K for the new whatever! That is why doing something different is cool. And on top of that, after you are done whopping the daylights out of a GTP with your saturn (Saturn is how I started) you feel good about showing people what a certain car can do.

I wasn't down talking the Berta in fact i said there peppy. It is just that all you listed was an intake and an exhaust that and a few other minor mods might get the Berta to the mid 15's possibly low 15's if the guy knows what he is doing.

but your car looks like a 14 second car at worst to me so it should be an ez v for you

uhh, building a camaro isn't "off the beaten path" its damn near an american past time, by building weird stuff, i mean people that build really poor platforms which are playing catchup, like a berreta, now do the same work to a nearly identical motor in a fiero and for the same cash you are going faster. i have respect for the guy that builds a fast beetle for 10k, and i have respect for the guy that builds a fast camaro for 5k, i don't have respect for the kid that was gifted a, geo storm, decided he would take the world on with it, puts 250 bucks into it to make the engine louder the windows darker and the rims more rediculous and calls it his whip.. if a person is succesfull with his or her car then more power to them, but if they are just blatently retarded with their money without accompishing anything but bringing disdain to the automotive craft then it's better they spend more time at the track or show seeing what others have done, a great old saying i can't fully remember about having two ears, two eyes and one mouth, you should look and listen twice as much as you talk..

i've gone off the path as well, my d13 hardbody nissan has 16 inch rims vs 14's, i run potenza runflats on all four corners, stock for stock because of traction and weight, i can take out a 240 sx and have in my lil 5 speed. i have a mitsubisi turbo and sidemount intercooler sitting in the garage that will one day make that truck a lil peppy thing. odd? yes for sure, but based in reality, for 500 dollars i have semicustom rims and tires that make me much faster!

rockit, I don't mean any disrespect to anyone, I'm just giving credit where it's do. If someone wants to tint the windows, put ugly rims on and a fart can muffler, fine. It's their car and I don't have the right to say anything bad about it. I will race that Beretta tonight and I'll see how it goes. Maybe he has something I won't expect. You never know, there might be like a Ram Jet 502 in that car! I don't know. It would be cool though to see that.

Rockit, I know how you feel. I beat that Beretta but I kinda slowed down cause there isn't a point in going that fast when your already 10 cars ahead of him. I don't get it. That beretta would have lost to the accord I raced! Explain how little four banger would beat six banger. Uh, isn't there a saying, no replacement for displacement? I dunno. I think it was kinda beaner-'d. I'm hispanic so I'm not racist or anything but what's the point of all kinds of body mods and no performance mods? I don't get it. You blow all your money making the car look good but it doesn't perform any better than a bone stock verison of the car. WTF!?!?! Can someone explain this?

No not intelligent, just weenies with their tail between their legs.
For example i mentioned my truck, now this lil turd in a Dc2 integra with a full, fairly nice body kit and exhaust, has revved on my rusty TRUCK several times, i've actually run him in it and he barely had anything on me. had i shifted better i probably woulda had him(truck has i believe 150 hp and 185 ft lbs at 2500lbs)
Enter the GTA, i see the douche running around one day and me and my buddy are cruising, i get up next to him on clifton boulevard and my friend rolls down the window and gets his attention. Now right down the street is a highway that's pretty low traffic and cop safe, two minutes away.

anyways my buddy is like "you wanna run them?" the kid has a bit of hearing prolblem apparently "uhh whaaat??" My friend gets a lil impatient "YOU WANT TO RACE!?" kid looks at my car, looks at my friend,, "Naw i'm good" and peels right at the first street he sees.

a month or so later i see him at a red light, as im pulling up i drop her in nuetral and give him a nice long hello on the exhaust pipe. Now,, the kids window is down, i'm on his driver side, just trying to be nice i ask "What you got done to her?" trying to be nice! The kid acts like he has a neck brace, both hands are on the wheel, motionless, he looks straight ahead and pretends i'm not there.. I'm so disgusted with this kid, i tottaly understand succeding to a superior car, it's not in my nature but i understand it. Im trying to make peace and maybe make a car friend that can find me some d*mn races but he's to ball less to even say hello....

stuff like that is why whe it comes to racing, i never say no. if a dude saved up and bought a corvette, and he wants to start something with me, i'll give him what he wants if only in fun, you can't just pick on cars you think you'll beat, you have to accept all chalengers to see where you stand, better to lose honorably in a simple race then to run and hide, barring of course if im in a bad area to do such things, i.e. 71 southbound, cop hell.

I want to figure out a way to mount a camera in my car that wouldn't move too much, have a good picture at night and do this all on the cheap. Maybe someone could drive to Oak Brook, IL and follow me as I race and they hold the camera cause I think holding a camera and racing at the same time would be a bad idea. Any suggestions?

Was his car stock or did he have something in it to talk about? If you raced a stock car, that was a waste of time. Stock 4 banger accords are 150 bhp. I think my go kart can beat them.

i agree. the 4-cylinders are nothing to brag about. but the v-6's are pretty quick. i've seen one beat a 3.8 4th gen in the 1/8mi by 1-2 cars. and last time i checked, a 3.8 4th gen would beat an L03.

The V6 accords are pretty quick. They are a 240hp 3.0 V6. That combination makes for a quick car. Also you can swap alot of the stuff from their Acura cousins (Acura TL & CL) to make more power with very little money. As far as beating a V6 4th gen, I did that in my bird when it was bone stock in need of a tune up and rear tires! I don't know what they run or what I was running but it wasn't all that quick cause I got spanked by a WRX (non-STI) when I was stock. Ouch!

i beat a v6 accord in a twisty section of highway in my truck, he might have smoked me in a straight line but i drove that s curve on SR71 twice a day for 3 semesters on zr rated runflats, i KNEW how fast i could go, he apparently, did not. i tell you that truck scared the crap outa people on turns, it just stuck like mad.

I'm at it again but in a friendly race. My cousin's Integra has bolt-ons and a head with a cam. Type R's are fast but they aren't muscle. Muscle wins every time. Anyone know of a cheap video camera that I can't mount in the car and not have to touch while racing. I want to record the stupid cars I go against. I supposed I would also need it facing backwards so you can actually see the car racing me!
