Just lost to a toyota prius

so im just cruising in my 85 z (upgrades in sig) when some douchebag looks over at my car w/ disgust, (its not very environmentally friendly) so im like **** it, light turns green and i just gun it not sure how fast i was going (speedo isnt hooked up) but i got caught by next light which was about a 1/3 of a mile, he didnt even try to keep up w/ me, but when he pulled up next to me at the next light he said "wow thats a fast car" i said thanks, then he said "what kind of gas mileage does that thing get"? Needless to say i won the race, but i lost the war. Haha i would rather eat sh%t and die than drive a f%ck%ng prius

most people who drive thirdgens , ride harleys , drive jack-up trucks , etc. don't care . i do average 20-23 mpg local driving with mild mods. . if you really lost to a prius i would not admit it . good luck .

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

this post reminded of something that happened to me several years ago . i was on my harley ( 1981 FXE , 1340cc's ) on a bike run at a gas stop . a goldwing rider commented , nice bike , whats your mpg ? i replied , i don't know or care , it's an american made harley . he lowered his head , turned and walked away . i was laughing inside .

in all honesty though, he only gets about 30 mpg in normal traffic driving.
i get 24 on the highway and 19 around town.
factor in the environmental cost of all those LITHIUM batteries and guess what... i win.
not to mention that my car looks cooler, sounds cooler, rides better, and gets cooler chicks...
i mean hey, those enviro-freak girls are cool, but i like shaved armpits and ... haha.

AMEN! Even my Dodge Ram gets the chicks

With a functional RamAir hood, Dual Exhaust, Headers, SCT programmer, and a system with 2 12s under the back seat. It moves and gets the attention.

Edit--Just noticed that apparantly my phone has a messed up camera. The truck is actually black and looks almost silver in the 1st picture.

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

This reminds me of my brief visit to a Prius forum. One guy was bragging about beating a Viper from 0 to 6 mph. Yes, 6, not 60. The instant torque of the electric motor gets it to walking speed pretty quick. After that, not so much....

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

Actually Uncle Tom, most of the parts on Harleys are now made in China and assembled in the US. Because HD is now on the stock market it is not American owned. Furthermore the Goldwing is made in America also. Its part are made in Japan and assembled in the US. Also, after taking the Goldwing on a 200 mile ride, you dont have to have it trailed the last 50 miles. GM is another business that is full of crap. American company????? Our Camaros are made in Canada.

What cracks me up is these people are driving in the "green" cars on the freeway doing 80 or faster. At that speed they arn't getting 30 mpg and that little 4 cyl is not very "green". I would much rather drive my camaro or that Silverado.

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

thats true...
prius drivers are the fastest drivers on the road.
they get lots of tickets around here.

in my caprice, i actually got the same mileage at 75 and 55 lol.
thanks to the 2.73 gearing, the engine was making more torque and had a lower bsfc at 75.
70 seemed to be the sweet spot for all i could tell.
its weird to think that you can go faster and burn less gas.

this only really works in a car with a big engine though.
you wont be turning slow enough in a 4cyl at 70.
you would probably be doing over 3500 rpms.

in my camaro i am right about at 2000 at 70

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

the title got me, first thing I thought of was "bad running iron duke"...

because my car is a daily driver, I have to care about gas mileage. I get 26mpg on the highway and about 19-20 in the city. I never have to go above 2k rpms in the city for stop and go traffic. My car is a 1krpms at 40mph, my mom's Camry is a 2krpms at 40mph...haha, thank God for those 2.73's!

To add my .02...

The import scene gets the most/hottest girls HANDS DOWN. Very rarely do I see more than a handful of attractive girls at any muscle car event. Go to an import event and they count for almost half the audience!

Trucks attract some girls (more than muscle cars from what I have seen) but usually the country music lovin' girls! Nothing wrong with that!

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

Actually driving a Prius or any other hybrid hard would return WORSE MPGs than a V-8 driven the same way for the logical reason being that the hamster engine is working overtime to try to drive hard while it is effortless for the V-8.

Furthermore, the price of purchasing a new Prius does not make economic sense in the long run when there has been proven articles out there saying you would need to drive a Prius (or most other hybrids) over 200K at $4 gas to even break even instead of keeping your American made Camaro.

On an environmental note, when it comes time for that Prius to hit the junk yard. That battery that has been "eco friendly" for so long is going to dump soooo much toxins into the ground its ridiculous.

I love my Camaro and I love the U.S. even more. I do my part to support General Motors AND the environment. I bought a brand new Chevy Cobalt which is getting me a respectable 40MPG on my daily 70 mile round trip..... God Bless the United States of America.

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.

Jesus you had me going with the title. Who cares about the mpg a car gets? All I care about are the hot chicks, a sweet looking car oppose to the hunchback turtle toyota calls a prius, and my joy when driving it.

Stop the ignorance guys. Prius only get 30mpg??!!! Just because you don't like the car, don't spout off misinformation to make you feel better about your beat up ****** mobile. My dad does 110% city driving in his 2008 Prius and gets 50.2mpg average. He ran into another Prius driver who was averaging 60mpg. He said he was retardedly conservative, coasting as much as possible, tires over inflated, etc...

But as boring as the car is, it's comfy has tons of room for 4 adults and a decent, not great, luggage compartment, and 10 gallons will get you damn near 600 miles per tank. I would love to own a Prius along with my Thirdgen.

red dragon 85, I know what you mean with the caprice, excellent for long higher speed trips.
for those people that don't really care about driving and just want cheap transportation, they would love a prius. As for me, well, I can't drive something that boring. I can hardly stand driving an automatic, not enough fun. I don't care if it's more fuel efficient or faster in the 1/4. I think a lot of us forget that there are more things to driving than the fastest 1/4 mile anyway.

Trucks attract some girls (more than muscle cars from what I have seen) but usually the country music lovin' girls! Nothing wrong with that!
Maybe those "hot" girls (90% asian) that make up half the audience are there making up half the audience because otherwise the import guys wouldn't have any other reason to drive their piece of crap boring-mobiles!

Personally, I don't give a damn about girls when I go to muscle or classic car shows/events, I'm there thinking about TORQUE, power, and cars, not girls. I know that's just me, but if you go to the movies do you go for the comfy seats? No, although the seats are nice, you go for the movie (unless your girlfriend is one of those "naughty" types, then you go for "other" reasons)

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

It all depends on how the car is driven. There's a guy that was featured in a Seattle paper that, at one point, had 90mpg in his prius. While the guys from Top Gear tested the prius against an M3 at the prius' top speed. The prius ended up with under 20mpg driven hard.

As for being enviromentaly safe, the amount of emissions it takes to create a prius, outweighs the benefit of driving one. So, keep your thirdgen, trucks, and gas-loving machines because you will all be saving the enviroment by keeping the production rate of the prius down.

This is true, your post backs mine up. I don't go to races/shows for the ladies. I find them elsewhere!

I was merely pointing out the fact that you DON'T think of muscle cars and those types of events as a place to see a lot of hot women.

to both of you. Why would I want to stare at the women when my wife is with me (she loves muscle/classic cars) and she looks like a mix between Salma Hayek, Eva Mendes, and Rosario Dawson? Best of all worlds, she looks like them, and loves muscle cars.

So you are calling my Dad a liar? Or are you saying that his Prius's have a mysterious 22 gallon fuel tank, as opposed to the 11 gallon tank thats stated in the owners manual? OR are you telling me, that he doesn't routinely get 500+ miles to a city driven tank, because the tripomters in Prius's are all fubarred from the factory? Or are you saying that all Prius owners are tree-hugging liars? All your doing is feeding the stereotype of typical ignorant thirdgen owners that are all wall-eyed, buck tooth, ******* hillbillies with rusted beat up, multi-colored bodies that run high 17s, with Nascar stickers all over the *** end of thier mulled machines.

You don't even own one. You've obviously never driven one. Ignorance won't take you anywhere you want to go. ***.

Read between the lines ya newbs, I was making a point. But I'll make it easy for you. Mmadden, called my day a liar and ignorantly made a comment regarding a well known hybrids gas mileage as a sham. So I made a comment regarding the well known stereotype of Thirdgen Fbody owners and how he's fueling it.

Come on guys, I was making a point. Prius's get AWESOME mpg. Yet, the Diesel VW Jetta gets even better and doesn't need an electric motor. However, that's where emissions and fuel costs come in. Prius runs on cheap 87 octane. VW needs the more expensive diesel and doesn't run as clean as the Prius engines.

Who cares if your making a point about the PRIUS? Go to a PRIUS website and talk about PRIUS's with other PRIUS owners. This is TGO, sorry were going to be single minded and swear by out cars.

On a lighter note, i saw a prius the other day, with 18 inch rims on a flatbed, so that particular prius is currently getting the same mpg as a flatbed, which has got to be under 20. JDM lol?

Re: Just lost to a toyota prius

Lets get back to the topic before it gets locked.

Prii can get 12 mpg at full throttle, or 65+ mpg using hypermiling techniques, and anything in between.

The battery pollution is a non-issue, as Toyota will buy them back for rebuilding/recycling.

Of course they are slow; it's an economy car.

And Schwinny, calling it a liberal car is complimenting it. Liberal is not a bad word. From the dictionary: "Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded"
I've met a few Prius drivers that owned them solely to save money. The payoff takes a while vs traditional economy cars, but could be worth it in the long run.

I was not impressed AT ALL by the Prius mileage on the highway running 80 mph, just like I would run anything else. My brother had one, it SUCKED.... In fact it was worse than my grandmothers 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 3.4 V6 would pull on the same highway trip. The Prius does OK as a low speed, in-town commuter and pulls down decent mileage, but suffers terribly on a high speed highway run. The torquey, tall geared V6 in the Alero just LOAFs along under 2,000 rpm @ 80 mph in that car, returning 32-35 mpg. Her previous car was a 1995 Oldsmobile Achieva with the 3.1, that car would get 35-36 mpg running with the cruise set at 75 mph and the A/C blasting. I have done a little tweaking on the PCM and unlocked more power and better mileage. The factory detuned the timing in the 3.4 to keep it from knocking on 87 octane, running 89 octane, and a better advance curve, (Dual spark tables in this PCM) it has gotten 40 mpg running 75 mph.
