Ah don't leave us hangin'!

I actually really just get looks and waves when I'm in the '54 Dodge. Its pretty much impossible to go for a ride in that without getting at least 1-3 waves or thumbs-ups from other drivers. To be honest, when I got the Firebird it was surprising at first to not be the center of attention on the street. Most people around here probably don't appreciate it for what it is, hell I didn't even appreciate 3rd- and 4th-gens until I got my Firebird and learned more about them.

My new '87 S10 beater on the other hand.. I can only imagine what thoughts pass peoples' minds when they see that rusted thing. They must think I'm a crazy old red-neck! Probably doesn't help that I like to wear the cowboy hat I got for Xmas while driving it

Alright everyone, as ive said before on here, i get looks for my flowmaster 80series and no cats exhaust and also for my loud stereo system. Now to update a bit, I am gettin a set of hedman headers, puttin the hi flow cats back on and putting glass packs on it with turndowns. Im makin my exhaust as short as possible to get as much power as I can out of the exhaust mod. As for stereo Im makin a bigger box for my car that will drop it down farther into the rear well so it will hit louder. Im also gettin a new amp to push more power to em. I plan on disturbing the peace even more by adding air horns to the car, i tried to get my aunt to get me a horn from the barge shes workin but the owner of the barge has been lookin for one for 2years to put on it, so no extras there ='(...I think i have found a BA electric horn for it, one of those horns that they have at basketball games that they hit at the change of quarters. I think its gunna be fun to scare the crap outta people as Im cruisen up and down the strip next summer. I cant wait to get it all done

I don't know about you guys but around here where I live, almost nobody likes super loud exhaust (i.e. glasspacks and straight pipes). And if someone were to drive around at 3 grand all the time in the neighborhoods around here, one would most likely wake up to find that someone had taken a baseball bat to the lights and windows in the middle of the night. Heard of it happening several times.

Now being a car guy I would never do that to someone's vehicle no matter what they were driving or how loud it is, but I do have to agree that super loud exhaust is extremely obnoxious. That's just my opinion and to each his own.

EDIT: I did forget to mention that all people around here really respect a great sounding exhaust system so long as it's not obnoxiously loud.

im in the middle of nowhere and people around here love my car, but when i go into mesa or phoenix i get A. Civics/ricers doing blow by's or B. A cop tailing me because im 19 with a thirdgen or C. People glaring at me because i drive a "Gas Guzzler"

I drove to mesa with my friend in his TII RX7, full corksport exhaust the works, and we drove into the home depot parking lot, he was screwin around and he revved up his motor to about 7K and let it go so his blow off valve would go off, just being a jerk because we have an import/domestic rivalry goin on (every time i mod my car he does just a tad bit more to his and vice versa) and so i revved back, ive got edelbrock headers with a custom 3" back to the pipes and it echoed throughout the lot like his

so we pull into a couple spots and this guy walks up to his car (a prius of all things) my buddy and i were BSing about his car and the guy just made that annyoing "hey look at me schoffing noise", so i turned around and he said "i hope you two are happy with your gas guzzling heaps of steel" (keep in mind an FC RX7 is about a 1.3L haha) so i just said "well sir actually i am 110% pleased with my gas guzzling heap of steel, have a good one", so the guy gets into his car and it wont start haha dead battery.. so he gets out all pissed off and my buddy and i are going in, as i walked by i said "well sir, i hope your hapy with your $3k bill youre gonna pay to toyota to replace your battery, have a good one" and walked off hahaha

now keep in mind i am 19 and im from that "Y generation" or whatever you call it, but 90% of the time i am a courteous and respectful guy, until you turn your nose up at me for what i drive, and as for us screwin around, we all do it at one time or another, its just fun and you shouldnt condem us for things you consider" dumb" im pretty sure every single person on this board has some retarded story about something dumb they did, the only difference is we're doing it now and have the internet to share our stories. I broke my knuckles on my car countless times like you did and what im saying isnt out of "disrespect" but its my personal belief that if youre gonna stereotype me and write me off then why should i respect you?

OH and just to top it off, im not some stupid kid, just because im 19 doesnt mean im dumb, im happily married with a daughter on the way and im also enlisted in the army, i break my neck day in and day out and when i have time off i like to enjoy my car like anyone else

Happens to me all the time, somebody pulls up next to me at the light, stares straight ahead, doesn't make eye contact, no indication whatsoever they want to race, start rolling when the light going the other way turns red so they're already doing 10 or 15 when ours turns green, then think they're pretty awesome when they're ahead. same thing happened to me. I was driving up a street in the downtown area where a lot of tourists are. I hit a stop sign, waited, then accelerated up to ten. TEN!!!! VERY SLOWLY! not like pedal to the metal, but I do have a loud exhaust. this one guy like seventy feet away was in the middle of the road and jumped from the stripes to the curb as fast as he could! I swear! then he looked back at me as I was coming up and stared at me like I was some kind of maniac! What a loser! I still get a lot of dirty looks even tho I rarely speed. I definately never drive crazy or recklessly. But some people just dont understand. I say forget em! have fun and enjoy the freedom that is ours to have our cars however we want! AMEN????

In a neighboring town where my fiance lives we have a little thing called Hill Cumorah pageant. Its a festival for the Mormons to celebrate something (I'm not trying to be a smart *** and offend anyone I just don't know what they celebrate.)

Anyways, Every year they come and the cross walks are crowded with people shoulder to shoulder. When I go thru the cross-walks (when its my turn) they give me dirty looks because I have 3.08's in my rear and with a 5 speed I have to slip the clutch a little to keep it from spinning.

People always give me dirty looks/give me the finger. I'm not revving at them just need to get my car moving...

I live in a townhome community and get hate mail left on my door all the time about my car being too loud and a piece of junk. Granted it is in primer, but it is most def not a piece of junk!

One person went as far as to make a fake Christmas card on their computer that started out "Happy Holidays," and then went into "We all hope 2010 will be a much quieter year." It then went on to say a bunch of crap about the car being junk. Don't know who is doing it though. Some p***y coward.

I have had many people yell at me as well in my '94 camaro (v6), which did have a really good exhaust from a p.o. Its gotten a lil worse now with my 88 firebird. I got the exhaust done its pretty much a magnaflow performance exhaust. We cut out the cat and replaced it with a straight pipe as well, so its loud. I like to hear it sometimes, but I do gun by my friends house so that I wake him on my way home ... done since the camaro but this one works better. I also believe its the loudest in my small town, makes me proud. But on the other hand i idle around some places so I dont make up people.

This has happened to me before... I was in my trans am with the t-tops down, kinda close an intersection. I accelerated hard-ish, to like around 5-over, and some guy yelled something at me. I could hear him because of the t-tops. The road was totally deserted and I wasn't going that fast. My car isn't loud either. I guess it could have been the mohawk! I mean I was technically speeding then, but I get yelled at all the time by the parking lot monitors at my school for speeding, when I go half or less the speed of the other kids, and drive way more safely too. Now that it's winter I've been driving my family's explorer (great car by the way), and even though I still go much slower and more cautious than many other students, I still get warnings and such. It's like they hold me to higher standards than everyone else. It really gets on my nerves. I started idling through the parking lot because there isn't anything I can do about it.

As for people dissing 'this generation,' stereotyping people because of their age is just as bad as stereotyping someone because of the car they drive! And I know we all hate that.

As for being, sorry I forgot the exact quote, oh here it is, "undisciplined, unintelligent, and disrespectful to all," I am 17. My GPA for college applications was about a 96.4. I took/am taking AP Chemistry, AP Physics B, AP Physics C (w/ calculus) AP Gov, AP US, AP lit, AP Language (I'm forgetting some) And I've been in this advanced math program at UB since seventh grade, so I've already taken Calculus I, II, III (in addition to all the regular stuff) and am in Linear Algebra. As for disciplined, I was a Boy Scout, and I had a job for the last two years (until I quit because of said math program, so now I don't have any cash for my TA). And by the way, unlike many kids at my school, I bought my TA myself, and paid for practically everything done to it. As for disrespectful, I can be pretty disrespectful with my friends and teachers that I'm familiar with, but not to complete strangers.

Don't let the mohawk (I cut it down at Christmas but it was like 6 inches before that), and loud punk music (real hardcore music, not that "alternative" junk they have now) or the gearhead attitude fool you. I would say that I am intelligent, disciplined, and respectful (and even modest, when I'm not trying to make a point). I'm not alone, there are a lot of other kids like me out there too (although most don't share my love of cars). So please, lets not hate on the younger generation.

How'd they feel if we categorized all of them as the people who didn't want black/womens' rights, called them hippies, or said all of them spit on Vietnam vets. Put simply its the car. Nobody likes a third gen camaro unless they own one. They say eww ugly its not a muscle car its not a classic cuz' in there mind the only cars that should be loud are 60's and 70's cars. If you had a 69 camaro they would give you a thumbs up same with a mustang or challenger.

Because its so new the go eww thats also why the rolling 30 years smog law was removed. The people in congress were old when these cars where new so they dont want to think about that car i remember it when it came out now its 30 years old and dont have to smog im old. Also the money from the smog tax keeps there pockets lined.

Thus its from the late 70's and 80's no its not a classic i get crap looks all the time i just give them a thumbs up and think to my self thats there problem and they can kiss my A$$ its only a 2.8. Its not that loud or sound like crud well my car is definatly not a looker either. It needs body work and paint bad. Ive seen worse and in better condition this guy has a third gen with a fresh paint and 13inch dayton spoke rims now thats ugly.

I can definatley understand people raising their noses to these kinds of car, I get it all the time but at the same time i get just as many compliments from older people as well. Maybe it's San Antonio but I get a lot of thumbs up and compliments from all ages. Of course there is the people that say its ugly or why am I bothering with it or I should buy something new and i always answer with "well do you own your car or are you still paying the 10 plus thousand that you own on it" or " I can modify and fix every single thing on my car by myself for dirt cheap or free, can you with your 08 hybrid?" People will always be people whether young or old, respect or nonrespectful.

As for the generation thing, I dont fully agree but I can understand.

I had an old lady on my street always cry about you car is too loud, you take off too fast, you turn too quick she even called the police on me and told them to take my car away form me one cop laughed and said were not his parents then she said you suppose to protect and serve now!! now serve me some justice. the cop then went to look at my car it's a V6 92 firebird with a high flow cat and stock muffler. one cop said my moms Buick is louder then that . cops left nothing happen
2 weeks later i hear a about seafoam then use it on my can the lady calls the cops again she said i was doing a burnout or my car is on fire so cops come again and she stand at my driveway saying i got u now like what happen now. i tell the cops what burnout or fire no tire marks or flame then show them what i was really doing. lady pissed now start making up **** like i can't breath i passed out form the smoke then called you when i got up bah bah bah cop just left.

then i was changing my oil one day and she called the city, and it was one of them real A-holes inspectors come i spilled some oil on the ground and got a waste ticket like WTF it was the size of a dollar and was still hot like come on man. that was 166 dollar oil change with the ticket now I'm pissed and my parents wanted me to sale the car to stop anymore problems like **** that . so i went to the city and filed a complaint about her and come to find out my neighborhood has over 98 complaints about her a few more and we can have the city evict her off the block so i came to her with this and haven't had a other call since she gives me the means looks i just smile and as like break the tires loose in front of her house

I had a neighbor like that, my friends and I took turns doing a burnout in his driveway one weekend when he was away. Funny as hell to see the look on his face when he returned. I was 18 then, 26 now so that was a while ago and I've matured since then, or so I like to think lol. But damn firebird1992 that must have been annoying as hell.

she called the cops on my friend the other week so when it was rain a lot this past weekend he took his Subaru and did donuts in her yard. now that it dry there grass and dirt everywhere and her yard is a wreak hahah. but she got his car towed because he was parked in on the street and its no parking 8am-12am and it was 11:55am when she called so yea now she going after my friends now ahah but she got more then she can chew my friend is a really ***-hole

Well today I had another person stare me down me down on my way to work. I pulled up to stop sign and there was an old guy out working in his yard. As I sit waiting for traffic to clear I notice he is looking right me so I was like ok ... and just inclined my head as to say hello. I go turn and this guy is still staring and as I leave. His follows me the rest of the way down the street and I never went over 2500 rpms. I know my car is loud but really? Getting a stare down while I am standing still.

My exhuast fell of my winter beater when people look at me I rev to 7k cuz it is loud. Just cuz I don't care and if they have a problem we can discuss it. But all in all who cares what people think. I had a neighbor yell at me for taking out of the driveway like a bat out of hell when it was 7 pm because I woke his kids. So I babied it in the driveway and the dude plowed my driveway sometmes this winter. Make your neighbors happy and life is easier.

ya man I run open headers on the street so I get it a lot when I'm not speeding, I usually just stop get out of the car and ask them what the problem is then they usually shut up, or I just bring it up to 4grand and put my hand up to my ear like I can't hear them that usually makes em angrier!

Neighbors keep bitching about your car being loud? A 4am WOT down your street will give them a dose of what they really should be complaining about. Some guy staring you down for driving a "gas guzzler"? Waste half a gallon by reving it at the stop light.

People already think you're doing the worst thing, raise the bar, show them that it could be worse, then next time they won't mind when you tap the gas a little to get into the driveway or pull out of the parking lot.

Listen folks, I'm not exactly a senior citizen (21) but I can tell you that in a couple years the flowmasters on my car have gone from 'really cool!' to an annoying drone.

Some people ARE turds and feel it is their civic duty to police you, but giving them valid reasons to be angry (rude gestures, burnouts, doughnuts on someone's lawn [are you serious? That is destruction of property!]) isn't doing anyone any favors.

People who don't like cars wont get it, and your flowmaster 40's with no cats WILL earn you some disdain, but that's par for the course. Deal with it, and don't be a moron in return.

Also, some of you please, PLEASE work on your writing skills. There is a difference between an honest inability to spell and being ignorant and lazy. R and U are letters, not words! I always deduct points whenever I see them substituted in for a word that is two additional letters.

one thing i have noticed is some cars just look fast enough to make people mad,i get yelled at to slow down all the time in my white 89 ta,the thing is im never speeding when they do it.i usually respond with a one finger salute.those that do the yelling probably did way worse in their day and now want to control what everyone else does,give it up!

Hell, I am 18 years old and have been driving since my early 18's (19 in May) and I have never have had a reason to do the stupidity of things that some people in this thread did to ''retaliate'' for the complaints. Granted I have done some burnouts here and burnouts there and left my signature on some streets but its in areas where I know people don't mind and that was in the colder days when people were inside. Now a days during spring and summer its a no-no, alot of kinds on the street and doing stupid things is very bad.

Before I get more offpoint, I agree with you there Grum. Like I said before I am happy my area is all mexicans like me, they can give 2 ***** if its loud.

People usually mind less about your car when it's on a long highway with little traffic or you're on the back roads or places like hazzard county. But when it's in cities, towns, neighbors, places with lots of cross walks and children, that's when you gotta drive normal and respectfully.

(its a dumb show on mtv) but anyways there is a thirdgen owner named josh on the episode "Chelsea" and they way this kid ****** out after havin a kid and the way he talked to her was extrmly disrespectful! I will admit he does have a nice Camaro but he doesnt deserve it. Sayin the things he did to her amazed me. A man doesnt talk to a woman that way. If I ever saw him I'ld def give him a "bad look" if not more.

But back to main topic, I should be starting on my train horn set up in the next couple weeks. Makin them outta PVC pipe using an instruction book that a guy sells on ebay. Im runnin atleast 3 horns uner the rear of the car and then Im thinkin on two in the grill with a 3 gallon air tank under my subs in the rear well with a compressor underneath the car. Im gunna tune it to the nathan K3 train horns.

Lol a bunch of my friends are running some sort of horns on there trucks; one has a dixie horn, one has fire truck horns, one has ebay horn kit, one has an actual Nathan K3, and two have some sort of train horn kit that they paid 500+ for. I found out I can fit a 4 gallon air tank in my car so that will help out a bit. I will have my stock horns on there as well.

Amen to that, it's a shame that anyone like that is even allowed by God to have kids.
