Angry neighbors ...

So apparently I have pissed off my neighborhood enough that they have been reporting me to the cops. Luckily the cop who came by was cool and was like you should probable stop so they dont get a petition or whatever going so I would get in actual trouble. I know its partially my fault since the exhaust is loud but the tires marks for the most part are because I had really crappy tires that werent even the right kind for the car. Oh and it might have been because I tried to wake my friend up who lives down the street with my car as a joke when I drove by once. For the most part I do drive decently since this is not my first loud car, but this one is louder by far.

So I am curious if anybody has neighbors that are similar or worse. They just dont appreciate a good exhaust in my opinion.

Quit driving like a tool and you'll be fine. Haven't had one complaint from my neighbors and I have one of the loudest cars in town.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

depends how long you've lived there, they've lived there, and how well they know you. i've lived on my street for 15+ years along with many of the neighbors. they've seen me do exhaust work on hundreds of different cars, seen me build a few cars, and know i like to have fun modding cars. i personally don't believe in mufflers... as well as my friends that come over, but i take it easy on the neighborhood streets 9 times out of 10, and never had an issue. despite many tire marks, upset car alarm owners, and small children that don't understand... the respect of my neighbors overshadows my occasional dumbfounded rowdiness

Re: Angry neighbors ...

I've always been of a mind never ever do any of that in your own neighbourhood, don't crap in your own yard hehe! I'm not in a subdivision any more but I was extremely conscious of when I was starting, and making sure to drive slow till I got to the main road. Like you said, all it takes is ONE person to freak out and it makes your life miserable.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

As for drying as a tool, I dont do that. I have to do the whole idle for two blocks so I dont make up people around my girlfriends house cause all the old people complain. As for living in the neighborhood I have lived here longer than most of the people here. I normally do not try to play in my neighborhood either, and I know Im not the worst gunning on my street, they just hear me better. The people across the street are a bunch of red necks with lil four bangers or pos that fly throgh faster than I do, you just can hear my car across town.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

If your exhaust is that loud, you are being a tool. I have a kid that lives nearby with a POS ***** civic that is louder than a freinds late model race car. Unless your car runs 10's or less in the 1/4 there is simply no reason to have something ungodly loud or not run muffler. All it does is draw unwanted attention and make owner of said car hated by people who live near him.

Loud does not = power. This is hondaboy think.

That being said I love the sound of a well built V8 burble, but there is no reason to **** everyone off with a huge amount of unreasonable noise.

With a 305....Yes you apparently do.

Do you have no cat? Mo muffler? Open headers? I've done the no cat & no muffler thing on a 92 RS 305 before & NOT ONCE did I ever even get bothered by cops when pulled over for other stuff, much less the neighbors.

Be grateful they are only talking about legal resolutions against you. It could be a LOT worse. Sugar in the gas tank....Drain your radiator during the night, you drive off, Overheat & blow your engine...."PEACE AT LAST!"

Re: Angry neighbors ...

You should always take your neighbors into consideration and respect their privacy and right to a little piece and quiet. When I get my Harley out I try to keep it down out of respect. When I ride it to work and leave out early in the morning I roll it down the driveway away from the houses before cranking it.

**** them off too much and they may just watch the thief load all you stuff, or worse yet help them load it. Just sayin'

yeah, what exactly is your exhaust set? sounds like you have an obnoxiously loud 305 car that really has no reason to be that loud.

tires marks? so your doing burnouts down your street? thats not smart either, find somewhere else to burn off your crappy tires.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

As for the burnouts on my street that was done after I got my exhaust done and my father I wanted to know how much better it ran, and another time when I was messing around with my father because I had the rims/tires on the way. So if my car was really a problem, my dad would have kicked me around a bit for being stupid. Anyways this thread was not made so that people would start ragging all over me. I was curious if anybody else had situations when it was not necessary to complain to the police. Also this happened mid afternoon on the weekends on two different weekends.

There's a difference between having a loud car and being a ********...sorry to be blunt but you sound like an 18yr old kid fresh out of high school.

You didn't make this thread for people to rag on you but you made the thread to rag on your neighbors...hmmm....your actions warrant the responses you're getting.

It doesn't matter how long you've lived there, that doesn't give you right to disrupt the peace. Now, if you had full exhaust and the car was quiet then they're being unreasonable but I suspect that's not the case...you didn't answer what your exhaust set up was(unless I missed it).

I had a neighbor one time that woke me up every day at 430AM with him starting his car, and then letting it idle while it warmed up. I wanted to really mess up his car so I could get some SLEEP, but I never did. Thank GOD he moved

if your car is loud enough that people are complaining, the problem isn't with them, it's with you and your car

I don't expect you to listen to this, guys like you never do. They think it's their God given right to be as loud as they want to be

BTW i am not an 18 year straight out of high school. I am 20 year old that is in college and I have lived pretty much on my own since I was 17, but you will still stay I am inmature a** ****. The exhaust was is a high performance magnaflow cat delete, which was done by my friends dad at his shop. If my car was too loud my mother or step-dad who is a cop would have said something. I drive no differernt down there, no complaints there. Which generally means I accerlerate to maybe 2500-3000 rpms at the highest. Am i redlining? No. As i put earlier I did two real or three burnouts in a span of two weeks, but my tires have spun in the gravel near my driveway a few times on my way to work. Also this was not a place for me to rip on my neighbors. I know that some people are just the kinda people who are always angry and complain for nothing. Also this was in the middle of the day when these burnout happened. I am not that guy who is running my car super loud waking people up in the middle of the night. I have responibilities and cant even be out late enough to drive my car to wake people up between school and work.

Also I have had the car for almost year and I am just now having problems. I will say it is not my goal to **** off people with my car. My friends and family agree my car is fine.

Yah I think we should call up and see who left the complaint, because by law they have to. Wait til they go to work leave massive burnouts and then call later than night just because. Only thing is we'll have to make sure they dont see us ... cause they will hear it for sure.

Also to the person who says that I am just one of those guys who thinks I can make my car as loud as I want, I actually can. There are no ordinances for noise. However I do believe that cars with no mufflers should not be driven since they are crazy loud. I am not a complete *** **** or I would have called about the guy who blocks my driveway everyother weekend, or called about the crown vic that tears out of the driveway, or the lil s-10 that does the same thing. As long they dont hit stuff parked at my house or steal from my cars I dont give a ****, and they have done both. Did call then, but whoever did it got away both times. I have great neighbors. But then again the cops are across the street at least once a month so I guess they know whats up i.e. drugs etc.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

You know, noise can go both ways... it all depends on what age demographic makes up your neighborhood... I mean older folks tend to be more noise conscious, some may have hearing aids which amplify the tone of an exhaust, ,or at least I imagine it would... I mean the younger folks would probably not complain about it, since the reality would most likely be they make noise of their own... it tends to go both ways...

As for the OP's actions, from what I read, it all falls under immature actions... I was somewhat like that when I was younger, however, I would wait till I got to the main road to open her up... well anyways, my car's exhaust consist of a high flow CAT and an OE Flowmaster... My neighbors "what sounds stock" 07 Corvette makes more of a ruckus than my Birdie... oh and also all the F******* car alarms that go off as some tool in a Jet Big Rig Hog drives by at F******* 3 am ...

F***** = French, Foreign, Funny... take your pick...

Reading this thread I would say you are very immature for being a 20 year old and going to college isn't making you any smarter.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

Honestly yes there are people that can get upset real easily over exhaust/stereos. A lot of older people retire in my area, and older people and familys with babies enjoy the peace. Ill admit I have done some burnouts on the street in front of my house and in my driveway (youll see me out there with the degreaser cleanin it up the next day), but you dont have to be loud when u do one. I have no cats and a flowmaster 80series(Im prrty sure its the loudest flowmaster they make). When driving down the road to my house I keep it quite and turn my stereo down. Just me smart about it.

There is this little thing that people call respect, if you have to just let off the gas and roll by their house. Wave to your neighbors, just be nice to em. Show them that you arent some punk kid that trys to **** everyone off and they will be a lot nicer to you. Just my two cents.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

You live in a normal residential area right? Normal 25 mph side street right?

What in the hell are you bringing it up to 3K rpms for? That's kind of high for driving around town isn't it?

Maybe you do have whiny neighbors, maybe you do have neighbors that are a bit sensitive but even by your own admitted actions you're not really helping the situation.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

The speed limit where I live is 35 not 25. And that high of rpms get me up too around 25 on my speedo. And as for the guy who said I was a coward I would just like to say you might be barking up the wrong tree. I picked the only action that was not a guaranteed go straight to prison option.
Also I have made a point since the complaint to keep the car under 2000 rpms. I dont want the noise complaint tickets. The burnoutss themselves were not very long and my tires were not squalling at all any of the times.

Of course you don't think that, you're automatically biased.

My car is relatively loud, the blower is loud, I try to be considerate in my apartment complex, I idle through, my complex is also tucked in a middle-upper middle class neighborhood...they don't need to hear me rip up and down the streets.

I guess what I'm saying is try putting yourself in their shoes even for just a minute. I'm not saying you're wrong and they're right but it's easy for you to see no wrong doing on your part.

Man, will you guys stop saying "Your right" do you even know your rights. No!!! you don't because truthfully you don't care about them cause if you did you would look them up and understand them rather than what you are doing and clearly showing your lack of intelligence. You only have rights if they don't conflict with other peoples rights. What he is doing is Disturbing the peace and guess what that is a minor criminal offense. Now is he really being to loud or is his neighbor(s) over reacting, i don't know and have not seen any proof that it is not really loud. Next let me tell you about cops boy, they can find something to charge on you if they want, there is a whole book of rules and regulation that he can go through one at a time and if he has been a cop long he will have some in his mind, that almost no one pay much attention too. The cops he got were nice and he was lucky, he should be thankful for that.

Also to the person who says that I am just one of those guys who thinks I can make my car as loud as I want, I actually can. There are no ordinances for noise. However I do believe that cars with no mufflers should not be driven since they are crazy loud.
Guess what they will not give you the info on who called and there is no way in hell it's a law. There is a law against giving that info out and it doesn't take a 2.0 GPA to figure out why, if you need help then just look at your post. Next there are regulation of exhaust systems in your state and by such you can't make it as loud as you want, well you can but you'll get tickets cause it's not your right. Next you finally got one some-what right. you must have an muffler on your car it is a law that most if not every state has due to noise control.
Now I got a question for you did you make another account called Iroc-dev to agree with you?

i think if pos harleys get away with it there shouldnt be a problem, whats good for the goose right? depending on the neighborhood burnouts may be out of line.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

What might be a little noise to you might be a lot to others. There's a guy in my complex with a GSR bike, ****er revs it to 10K all the time while it's idling...how would that be different than having a loud car? It's not, it's annoying, obnoxious and childish. I'm only 29 but I try my best to respect the people around me, do you REALLY think they want to hear the blower or the exhaust on the car? If was ripping around the complex like an F1 track or revving the engine at 11pm at night then they would have every right to complain...100% justified.

There's no doubt some people have a bug up their *** and like to complain about everything, however it's a 2 way street. I sure as hell wouldn't want to hear someone rip up my street all the time, no matter how much of a car guy I am.

Real classy. Firing up an open exhaust at 3AM isn't showing respect for your neighbors. The whole "well it's my yard" argument holds up in court about as well as a Haitian building in an earthquake. Every resident has a reasonable expectation of privacy and peace. Working on a car at 2 in the afternoon would be reasonable, working on a car at 3AM and revving the **** out of it would not be...

Then again some of us live by rules and have courtesy for others :dunno:

Re: Angry neighbors ...

never really had a problem with my neighbors. I only had one neighbor come say something to me. He claimed i was speeding down the street and driving like a fool. I was going 25 and downshifting from 2nd to 1st and he flipped. He then tried to stop me in the middle of the street on my way to work the next day. I talked to the police and they said they would be more than happy to come out if he approached me again. Low and behold he did so about a week later because he said my leaving 11pm keeps waking him and his kid up i told him i was sorry but he kept pressing me telling me i was a hooligan and a had no respect so i called the cops. when they showed he told them my car was SO SO loud. I told the cops to check the car, and they did. My car is about 100% stock. Cop tells me neighbor that im A O.K for the year of the car, then i asked him to escort the neighbor off my property. the cop talked to him for about 10 mins then came back and told me i should not have trouble anymore. The bottom line is that i was not trying to make my neighbors angry, there is just no pleasing some people.

Here is where a little maturity comes in handy - learning from experiences. Are you just an angry person and the only way you can express your feeling is to do something that will get you into trouble with the law? Why do you have to do anything?

I guess you answered your own question!

Unless, you're playing a game of semantics between the words crank and rev.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

I'm guessing I may have made a mistake getting on this site. Seems we have too many "children" here, do you not have some homework or a Hanna Montana marathon to go watch? Seriously.

This discussion has gone way too far over some of these "kiddies" heads. They dont get it, and may never get it. But alas, I'll give it a shot...

So in RE: to these "cool knarly dude rebel without a clue" types, this is for you.

HEY MORON NOISE DOES NOT EQUAL POWER. YOUR RIGHTS END WHERE SOMEONE ELSES START. ALL EXCESSIVE NOISE DOES IS MAKE PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT INTO OUR HOBBY GET AN EVEN MORE NEGATIVE IMAGE OF IT. I AM INTO ATV'S AND DIRTBIKES ALSO, AND ALL EXCESSIVELY LOUD EXHAUSTS DO IS GET OUR RIDING AREAS CLOSED.

AND TO THE MOUTHY ONES RUNNING OFF AT THE MOUTH WORST, IT SEEMS YOU ARE ALL RUNNING STOCK 305'S. A MAZDA SPEED 3 HATCHBACK WILL KICK YOUR ASSES. AND AS THE LITTLE MAZDA BLOWS BY YOU YOU WILL NOT HEAR IT BECAUSE IT HAS A DAMN NEAR SILENT STOCK EXHAUST. SO THERE GOES THE "POWER" ARGUEMENT.

IF YOU STILL FEEL YOU NEED TO BE AS LOUD AND FLAMBOYANT AS POSSIBLE, SELL THE F BODIES AND BUILD A NEON GREEN RACE HONDA WITH A HUGE WING AND FART CAN, IT WILL GET YOU EVEN MORE ATTENTION. YAAY!

IF YOU TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOUR "KILLA ILL" SOUND SYSTEM BOOMCAR MODS... JUST SHUT UP. And buy a honda!

Re: Angry neighbors ...

Ok for the person saying that I need to be in the other persons shoes, my neighbors across street are always doing stuff in cars that annoys the hell out of me. I only care when something gets hit or stolen. Which includes blocking the road in front of my drive, flying out of the driveway at night and all kinds of crap. Also i have my friends at city hall finding out who called so I dont even have to call. Another thing I have no plans to do anything besides find out where the complaints are coming located on the streets so I know where to be slow.
Also I know the car with I have done so far, this is not a car that makes a lot of power and I never said it did. The goal with the exhaust was to get a more free flowing exhaust that will allow for slightly more power but also allow replace the pipes that had holes and the cat that was little more than an iron weight. The car when I bought it was a junker and I have been completely rebuilding this car. Which should end with a crate motor late this year or early next.
Also I bet i am the running my mouth I would like the person who posted that to show me how I really was mouthing and then also since he talks so big I want him to come try to shut me up. You wont be the first or the last to try.

come on seriously? i feel bad starting my car at quarter to seven if i'm taking it to work because its quite loud. If i started it up a 3am, i would expect an angry mob with pitchforks and torches in the front yard. If you want your neighbors to respect you, you have to respect them, and firing a really loud car at 3 in the morning is not it, unless of course you live far enough away from your neighbor that its a non issue. If you lived near me and did this, i would have the cops at your house every time.

Re: Angry neighbors ...

anyway, for the OP. If you have a full exhaust with a magnaflow muffler, with or without a cat, it shouldnt be loud enough to cause complaints, unless its a little straight through race muffler, then you need to find another muffler because you are not gaining anything by using it and its too noisy

The situation was probably brought about because of the burnout. I would just take it all as a life lesson and move on. Just avoid doing stupid things in the street in front of you house and you should be fine.

Who's to say it was them that called in the complaint? I'm saying this sincerely, let it go....you're better off not knowing who called in the complaint. Knowledge can be dangerous, NO good will come out of you knowing who is whining...seriously...give it some thought.
