Car: 1990 Iroc Z Convertible
Engine: LB9
Transmission: 700R4
TV Cable, who's ever changed one?
So I need to change my TV cable and I need a little advice as to the best way to do it. I can't figure out what size the only bolt holding it in is, I can't figure out how to get a removal type apparatis in the somewhat non existing space left by the wonderful GM engineering team. Once I get the old one out how do I get the new one in

Oh boy do I know how! This is probably one of the most frustrating jobs I've ever had to do!
A couple warnings:
1) DO NOT remove the old cable before you route the new one in.
2) I don't remember the exact size, but I think it's a 10mm bolt and the only way I could get at it is with a open end wrench. You will have about 2 inches of room to move the wrench so be patient.
3) Once you get the bolt off of the old cable that joins it to the tranny, be very very careful at this point not to just pull it off. The cable portion coming out of the tranny is a very very small little hook that has to be threaded through the very very small hole at the end of the TV cable. You will want to try to slowly slowly pull the old cable out and try to keep that hook threaded through the end of the hole in the old cable. Once it gets unhooked it will get sucked back into the tranny and then it's complete hell to get back out. Smaller hands it a bonus here.
If all else fails, you will have to lower the tranny and once that's done it's a breeze.

Upon adjusting it last year a small piece of plastic broke off of it and since then it has required constant adjustment. I ended up dropping the tranny pan, the car needed its tranny fluid and filter changed so I figured I'd do it all at once. Once the pan was dropped it made putting the new cable in much easier. A guy by the name of Transfixleo has posted a lot on the Transmission and drivetrain board about TV cables. I'd try a quick search, as this guy really knows his crap.

Tranfixleo knows his stuff, but when I talked to him regarding the TV cable replacement, he wasn't anywhere near the mark. Based on his advice it seemed like a 10 minute-no-brainer-job. It would be if the tranny was dropped.

Actually, if the tranny is dropped it would be a 2 minute job. Its THAT easy when you have room to work. But with the tranny bolted up there isn't any room to maneuver your tools, or hands. The hardest part has to be getting the new cable to hook up to the tranny, it likes to slip off the hook.

I got lucky when when the actual cable broke half way to the speedo. Cruisin home one night and the speedo justr dropped dead hahahhaha. Sorry ocifer, i don't how fast i wa going?????? It is kind of tricky, but it was all intact so no peices to worry about. The only thing that sucked was the one bolt, and yes, it was a 10mm. Box end wrench....
