Cayuga Last night

It wasn't busy at all, might of had a total of a dozen cars which made for no line-ups. Anyways ran a personal best of 15.5 with bad traction i also have a slight bog in the launch it might be that my secondaries are opening too soon so i will have to adjust and keep trying. I was very surprised not to see any members there.

15.5...hey thats a good time.....seems like you have done some work to her since I last ran into you...nice one!!!!! How long did it take you to get out there from Mississauga Kevin? The traffic is main reason why I dont even consider heading out there on a wed evening.

I used to go to Cayuga a lot back in the late 80's early 90's. The car I was running then had a Rochester and I would get the same bog and it turned out to be vapour lock as a result of the long drive down and high underhood temps. I put a cool can on and no more bog. Just a thought that may get you a couple extra tenths

Wow I guess I am really showing my age Anyways a cool can is like a cooler for your gasoline. You run a coil of gas line around five to ten feet or so inside of a can that you fill with ice when you want to race. The gas gets cooled greatly by the cold ice and becomes more dense which means more gets into the engine which=more HP.

Vapour lock is caused by gas overheating inside the carb and it actually starts to boil. This causes the calibration to go screwy and usually results in a bog effect. I made my own cool cans using 3/8" copper tube wrapping it around some three or four inch pipe six times or so. I then used a tube bender to bring then ends out together at the top of the coil. I then put the coil into a can that was about 8 inches in diamter and about ten incehs high or so. Spliced it into the gas line between the fuel pump and carb and when filled with ice it would last about three hours and completely eliminated the vapour lock bog problems I was having. Not suposed to use copper though but it bends easy. Vapour lock is more likely to rear up in a Rochester cause the float bowls are internal and tend to hold more heat than Holley's with external bowls.

Summit still sells cool cans heres a link to give you an idea

Hope it fixes the bog for you. If not the worst you are out is about twenty bucks for some line and it will give you a little more power regardless. Its basically the same as a cold air intake but instead its a cold gas intake. I have tried them on Holley's but didn't really notice much difference like I did on the Rochester.

Hey Miike I am not 100% sure if TMP allows cool tanks anymore, well at least not home made ones. When the condensation builds they drop water on the track, and can cause a crash. Alot fo the new ones are kind of like a Cooler, they are all ready to go with the line already in the tank, and are insulated with foam to keep the condenstation down. But all in all they do really work

Its been a while since I have had to pass a tech inspection I haven't been down there in at least five or six years. Sounds logical though wet tracks are bad news. Perhaps using a small cooler would suffice here? Obviously going to need more research on your part Idlehands to see whats involved with using one. One other thing I forgot to mention is if its bogging consistently even when the car is not real hot then its not likely a vapour lock issue. I only seemed to have it at the track and it was VL in my case.

no youve pretty much hit the nail on the head there, i will see if i can buy one that way it wouldn't be any danger to myself or fellow track users .......
