Think my fuel pump packed it in.......

So I go away for a few days with the family car and leave the wife with the Camaro. I get a calll in Ottawa on Saturday night, it seems the Camaro won't start for the wife(that cat just hates my wife). I got back home last night and tried it out, I can't hear the pump prime, so I figure after 15 years its packed it in. Has anyone on here ever changed one of these and how difficult is it?

It's APITA.

I have a fuel pressure tester if you want to be sure it's that before you drop that tank.

Under the hood, drivers side firewall.

If you can hear the pump after you turn the key ahead then it's very likely the relay is ok.

I'd check for fuel pressure first. If thats ok then pull a plug and check for spark and a wet plug. A wet plug would indicate fuel is making it to the combustion chamber.

I hear nothing when the key is turned to the "on" position, so the pump is not even comming on. The car seemed to be down on performance the last little while so my bet is that it is the pump, the same thing happened to my olds a month before its FP gave in...

Sorry I thought you could hear it.

There is two terminals you can jump on the ALDL connector to make the pump come on. If that works then it would most likely be the relay.

D'oh, it was the relay. I took out my service manual and found the FP relay, swapped it ouy with one of the other relays and the car fired right up.

Right on. That is far easier than dropping the tank.

Was the car at home when it died or did you have to get a tow?
