O'man what a difference!

I just got the car back on the road after the feul pump went out. what a big diff. I dont know how long my stock pump had been bad, but now the car idles perfect. I think 13's with out gear or stall. No more hesitation off the line, and a good strong pull to 5500 rpm.

You ran 14.flat In a Lb9 car w/ Lt1 production Cam... w/ 2.73 gears ?

and a 1.96 60' None the less... w/ stock converter and 2.73 gears...

Im impressed, Please elaborate.

Yes I ran a 14.0 on my LB9 with 2.73's. 1.9x 60' are pretty common for my car. 1.99 normaly and on hot days 2.03-5's. I luanch at about 1750 every time just keep the tires from spining under braking. I have alot of port work done to the stock intake parts. I dont know how to explan it but it works. I bought this car to make it fast, its been good for a 305. I do have a little help coming from a new motor in the wings. But at the track I run 12* BTDC for timing, FP at 45 psi, Bfg drag radials at 28 psi, fronts at 45 psi, and ice the plenum for about 30mins or so before each run. One other thing the lighter the car the less hp and tqu to go fast .

Hey, that's encouraging. My combo is kinda close to that, but I haven't taken it to the grove yet to see what it'll do. Did you do any prom tuning? Right now, I'm still playing around with it, trying to dial in the APYP bin.

88 305 TPI/5sp. LT1 cam, TES, 3"hooker catback, ported 081's, & plenum, accel injectors, 3.23 posi, boxed suspension, air bags.

It runs a hell of a lot stronger than before, and it'll pull strong up to 6K and hit the rev limiter pretty hard. I think most of the gain I'm seeing is from the heads/exhaust.

Fastest trap to date with the 14.0 is 96 mph. The race wieght of the car is 3100#. With a new hood and 2 new fenders it should be under 3000#.

The difference here is that New87 has been sensible about his mods:

1. Not too much cam for the smaller displacement;

2. Not oversizing the exhaust;

3. Not expecting immediate results without fine tuning;

4. Not concentrating on the engine alone and forgetting the rest of the car (mainly traction);

5. Learning to stage, launch, and apply traction;

6. Paying attention to details.


I have no doubts that he'll get into the "lucky 13s" before the track closes this year, provided the weather cooperates (and he won't stop there). Anyone know where to find a strong 2,100 stall converter to help him out (Like a GM P/N 24202310)? I strongly suspect that anything higher will be wrong for his combo, and he didn't get where he is at by using the "more is better" philosophy. You can't just bolt on power all the time, you know.

Sensible application of technology, judicious application of the right foot...

Once you get it all dialed in and humming, if you are up for it, I'd like you to try a Wells MAF on your car for some comparison runs, just to see what differences there might be. I've got a freebie ready to go. Of course, you'd have to run it for a while to let your ECM get the BLMs right for it.
