Not sure about the specs on that cam. Don't want to go to radical with a TPI 305. I'd stay at or below 210° @.050 tappet lift. This will give you great bottom end but will also give good midrange and top end performance too. Anything bigger and you'll start noticing sluggish performance around town. I have a ZZ4 cam (208°) in my 350 and it never seems to run out of power.

Also, if your budget allows, get a set of Vortec heads and the Scoggins Dickey Vortec TPI manifold base and a good set of intake runners (SLP, TPIS, etc.) I believe they'll run you less than $1000 total but will yield great results. Try to get your compression to be around 9.25:1 so you can run pump gas and have good ignition advance. If you can step up to aluminum heads, put the compression at 10:1.

After you get done, bump your fuel pressure up to about 39-42 psi at idle speed, vacuum on. This will help out in the increased fuel demands by the engine.

Your gearing looks good. What trans are you running? T5 or TH700 overdrive? You could probably stand to up the gearing to 3.73 if you wanted to.

Unfortunately, that chip won't do anything for you. With this combination, you should be able to run the stock calibration ok, but if you really want to take advantage of it, you can either buy the equipment to burn your own chip, or have Ed Wright or someone else burn you one.

These are just some suggestions. There's no reason a mildly built 305 shouldn't be able to put a whiny little four banger way behind.

212° isn't bad for a 305. It should probably be ok. I think 87-94 Ford 302's used to run 210° pretty smoothly. But I think they had 115° lobe separation angle to reduce overlap and bolster bottom end. You should probably be ok.

for a 86 305 tpi , how will a set of vortecs heads go , i don't want to take them to the machine shop, i will buy the the new base for the tpi, also i have en egr, i been reading old threads in the search , and i see a few things here, 350 vortec heads will be no good on a 305 , then i see port the 416 but for that you need to take them to a machine shop,

if the vortec 350 heads work good on a 305 i can get then for about 700 canadian, than i'll put the comp cam in ,

I believe the Vortecs will work on the 305. They have the small valves (1.94 intake, 1.5 exhaust) so you won't end up with shrouding against the cylinder walls.

Perhaps people think the intake ports are to big for the 305?? I would disagree, but it's up to you.

I'm not sure about the currency exchange rate, but I'm pretty sure that they sell for about $450 a pair in the U.S.

Car: 92 T/A VERT
Engine: LB9
Transmission: AUTO
Axle/Gears: 7.5 / 3.42's
Comp also makes that cam with a 114 degree lsa. I would use that, especially in a 305.

i'm running the 112 lsa ona stock tpi engine, doesn;t 114 lsa require headers , bigger stall, and prom burning,

for now i'm going with the 112 lsa , this is alittle project for me, i'll do the heads and cam this year, and next year i'll put some headsers with a bigger stall,

for all who posted how will my car move with the vortec heads and the comp cam ,

i'm hoping for replies of peolple who did this mod
