Problem.....getting worse
Hey guys. My good ole L98 is acting up. It started a while back. It just dies out when I push in the clutch. If Im slowing down put it in 1st and let off about 3 seconds later it dies. It wasnt too much of a problem.....but now it does it quite often. Im really getting pissed. Im ready to sell the freakin thing.
I think it may be my timing...or maybe a vaccum leak. Cmon guys, I know we have the best of the best 3rd gen car guys on this site...maybe a few of you could tell me whats wrong.

you gotta check everything out.. its hard for something like that to tell you exactly what it is..
check your IAC though.. chances are its not opening and when you let off its killing it
its the little stepper motor valve on the side of the throttle body.. chances are its carboned up..
grab a vaccum gauge too cause they are pretty cheap and handy
timing lights are easy to come by too..
it makes a world of difference if you take the time and invest in the tools to check all of your tune up items

guess i coulda been a little clearer eh..
theres two things with wires on the passanger side of your throttle body..the higher one with three wires will be your throttle position switch..
the lower one with 4 wires going to it will be your IAC its got a little stepper motor inside that valve that controls the flow of air at idle.. if its running too slow or not at all it could be the cause of your problems
you need a large open ended wrench to get it off.. and have to take off your intake.. once you get it out look at the tip or pintle.. see how much carbon is on it and in the place it screws in...
you can reset it by following this link
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tpimod2.shtml
also check in your throttle body to see if there is alot of black carbon around your throttle body blades.. if there its not a bad idea to take it off and clean it up and all the idle passages
when you push the clutch in the computer is supposed to idle the car up a touch i think.. if its not doing that its probably that your intake is all full of carbon.. been there on my 5 speed iroc before too...
another thing it could also be is your MAF... have look to make sure that its not caked in carbon as well..theres electrical cleaner you can use to clean it up.. that can help as well as it might not be registering the flow at low rpms..
quick check with a vacuum gauge wouldnt hurt either..
