Bubba's Ram Air.
Needed to figure out how to route some cold air for the Formula since all I ahd was one of the K&N filters on the nose of the throttle body. Meet up with the previous owner and he gave me a heat duct he had tryied to fashion a cold air intake from. Well all I did was add the little extra duct work and trimed it a little and here you have Bubba's homemade Ram Air duct work:
Top view:
Inside look at the filter:
What is nice is that the intake temp sensor was hanging free and just picking up the temp under the hood. I think the air that was being sucked in was mainly the super heated air being blown out by the cooling fan. The sensor would read in the 160 to 190 range, now it reads in the 130 at idle and drops rapidly once I get going. Yes I know it is not very appealing to look at but it is a vast improvement over just the cone filter. I think I might just wrap it with the nice tape I got from summit that you can see where the black vent meets the unpainted duct. Stuff only sticks to itself and does not come undone like regular balck tape. And unfortunetly there is not cold air package offered for the ram air hood that is on it. Here is the front view of the car:

Fevre: looks good to me. I don't think it's "*******", because it would do more good than not, and you took the time to relocate the IAT sensor into it. Besides, noone's gonna see it unless you pop the hood

Oh boy, that looks awefull. What are you doing to my car j/k Chris. Looks good to me, but in my defense, I never did try it with the LT1 intake, only the TPI. As for the IAT sensor, it's programmable, you can program the settings for anything you want
Keep up the good work, and it's good to see you here with the rest of the ol' gang.
cheers...

Glad you like it, or at least not hate it. Only problem with the IAT sensor not being in the air path is that once it gets hot under the hood the sensor would not vary much and would take a long time to drop any when the car was moving. Now with the sensor directly on the air path it will go up 20 or 30 degrees at idle then drop as soon as I start moving. This is temp rather than long term, I just wanted to feed cooler air in without engineering a whole system. Would rather have a molded plastic filter housing that mated up to the hood but for the $2.95 and 2 hours it took I think it will work for a while.

Heck, spray it with some black spray paint and it wouldn't look half bad IMO. A+ for effort and functionality!

Yes!!! I love it! I need that same thing fabbed up for my SS hood. Fully functional, good job bro. Gotta love the Home Depot performance department, LOL.
I can go from white collar to white trash quicker than from 0 to 60, so the ******* comments I find extra hilarious. If you don't admit to having a little ******* in you, you're probably insecure about something else.
Enjoy the flow, hehe! -- Erik

ncie...
Thats great I have the RAII hood and have been playing with sheet metal to try and make a lid for the intake box they sell for the hood.. But that is a much better Idea I'd have to make it work with MAF tho.. That's good for a first try as far a appearence.. If I can fab something like that I'll make it look really nice and get ahold of you and send you one since your idea inspired me.. Thanks....

Thanks
Thanks for the compilment, I still have a lot of work left to do. I bought it about 2 1/2 years ago from a guy that was going to tow it to the junk yard, so it was pretty bad off, but it's getting there.. I think I have a couple of pics on this computer I'll check.. Later, thanks again..

question
Ok a couple quetions before I start on that. Is that a brace on the inside to stop the sucksion from collapsing that thin metal. 2) did you have to get a certain size heater ducting to get that filter to fit down in there?

I want that so bad. The 87 is getting that hood. Should I go ahead and tell the body shop to cut out the holes on the inside of the hood?
Any advice from you guys with the RA 1 hood?

I ended up not taking the duct work out for any runs, didn't want to have the intake temp sensor hanging free and messing up my intake air temp correction. I had traction problems so only managed a 13.7 but did go 102. I wish I had taken the time to read over how to use the data recording on my Accel computer to so I could have used it to see if I was getting any restrictions from the MAP sensor reading. I'll dig up the spoiler manufactures name, I think it is a full body kit but the rear section is not on (actually like it without it), was on the car when I bought it. It does look nice but the paint is peeling a little, must not have adhered well when painted. Like suggested in this post, it would be cool to get something made using the general dimensions of what I have fabbed up so it would look a little less *******.

Fevre, looks good its functional, only thing I would try to do is either get a cone filter that has a smaller front or if K&N makes a filter with the top that is a filter like the new 14" filter tops that way it will allow more of a straight shot into the intake rather than hitting the chrome top then flowing around it, anything to improve the airflow, it may look "*******" but thats cause its in the design stage, just tell everyone that, your working on refining it to be able to market it, the engineers do this stuff to to see if their ideas will work out right rather than making a finished product to test.
