Has anybody ever cut the screens of there MAF?
Does this do anything or is it not a good idea, I have not done it yet and am seeking advice.

search for it. some have done it and have had no problems but it doesnt gain much on stock motor or any motor for that matter till you need the extra 100cfm or so it provides....
others have done it and had worlds of problems
i myself have done it and have had no problems what so ever....
i cant tell if it did anything peformance wise either..... but i have since gutted the stock airboxes and have K/N filters with MAF screen delete. its flowing as much air as it can out of that intake design. but TPI and throttle body is holding it back from any real benefit, as the MAF sensor out flows both of them from what i have seen

The screens and the fins (or blades) has been gone for 17 years and never had a problem. This mod does make a difference in HP. This is an old trick.

?
I did this mod and a while later the car started acted funning. I tried forever to pull codes but nothing would ever come up, then somehow i put a new taillight fuse in and it fixed it.(the taillights and gauge lights had went out to, and i was only trying to fix the lights at the time) It surprised me when i started it up, but i drove it and it seemed like it still didn't have the power it used to, then last week it started acting up again. I tried to pull codes and it finally gave me code 33, which says theres something wrong with the MAP sensor or the MAF sensor. I read my haynes manual and it said the MAP sensor didn't have anything to do w/ it since my cars is a 1989 tpi v8. so i figure it must be the MAF. I checked it and there was no corrosion and the little wires inside all looked good. The only thing i could think of was that the little wires look like copper, but the bottom part of one of them had the little copper coating rubbed off. I don't think that really makes a difference but i just wanted to let you guys know everything. So do you think i need a new MAF sensor or what else should i try/do?
Thanks for your time,
Brady
