I have an extra TPI setup including the ecm and parts of a wire harness. For about a year now I have been toying with the idea of putting it on my 1978 Carlson CVX18. Has anyone ever had tpi on a boat? I think it would be a good replacement for the 750 Holley and the Torker intake thats on it now. For those who don't know what a Carlson CVX18 looks like check out the link where I have my pics posted. http://groups.msn.com/GlastronCarlso...struction.msnw

Yes, it's been done. The trick part is water/moisture and the ecm aren't happy together. - Most use the vette ecu and mount it in as dry of a location as possible. Another problem is the O2 sensor. Takes some custom fabing to get it in marine exhaust, especially since it has to go in the exhaust in a place there is no water. - It's do able, but you'll have to sit back and figure out how to weather proof EVERYTHING first. (wiring included) - also, the ecu has to vent, so you can't just put it in a sealed box. Also, if you run speed density(MAP) it takes some serious knowledge on tuning to get it dialed in in a boat. Different loads(fuel/people/skier) make for different engine vaccum, requiring different fueling/timing. - Also remember that you need to be proped and cammed to the TPI intake's RPM abilities(under 5000)...

WOW!! I used to have that exact same boat!! Mine had a smoke windshield and was blue, but otherwise looked exactly the same.

I agree, getting an O2 sensor in the exh will be the hardest part.

The ign timing will be all wrong too since boats are always under a heavy load.

I toyed with the idea of installing a TPI, but I hate working on my boat at the lake. Too damn hot and cuts into my beer-burning gas-drinking time!!

The o2 sensor is something I can work around, I know there are boats running multi port injection but I have not checked them out to see how everything was arranged. With the 750 single pumper vac secondaries and choppy water, I ran 58mph at only 3800 rpms. 5000 rpm should get me around 70 mph on better water.
The biggest problem for me will be tuning. I have never ran a SD system, only MAF. Not only will I have to learn how to tune the 7730 ecm but I will have to learn how to tune for a boat.

As for the windshield, I wish I had one but they are hard to come by. I found one in Canada for $700 shipped but it was a copy and I wasn't able to look at it so I didn't buy.

I broke the some teeth off the ring gear in my car last April and its still broken because all my time and money goes into playing with this boat. I'm wanting to burn some rubber so it time to fix the car.
