Need help, code 41

I have an 87 formula with a 305. It has been running rough and rich with the check engine light on. It's been bad enough that it is unable to be driven. I checked the light using the paper clip in the aldl connector method and it gave me a code 34. I then put a new maf into it to see if it would fix the problem and it did not. After starting it, the check engine light still came on, it then went off soon after, and quickly came back on. It was still running poorly throughout the whole time. It stalled while idling after the test drive and I checked it with a paper clip again. It stopped giving me a code 34, but then gave me a code 41. The trouble code table from the faq on this site says it could be, " Fault at cam sensor OR Cylinder select error OR Tach input error." If you guys can give me any help on what to do or even explain what that means to me it would be greatly appreciated. I searched and found nothing. This is my first post and if I missed something I apologize. Thanks!

Check your timing connector. Located passenger side near A/C housing coming out of the wiring loom. Single tan wire with black stripe with black connector. should be sticking out of the loom. Disconnected to put timing in bypass mode for checking/adjusting. And the check engine light will come on at start up, go out, and within 5 seconds come back on again. They also run full rich with the connector disconnected. Sounds like the place to start otherwise the flow chart will have to be followed.
